Brief History
The origins of the Dusit Thani Group date back to 1949, when Chair Person Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui opened her first hotel, the “Princess” on Bangkok’s New Road. In 1970, Dr. Khunying opened the company’s flagship hotel, the Dusit Thani in Bangkok. “Dusit Thani” in Thai means “Heavenly City” and is named after King Rama VI’s 1918 vision of the ideal metropolis. The Dusit Thani was designed to blend Thai culture with the highest standards of international accommodation. In 1995, Dusit International acquired the Hotel Nikko Manila by purchasing shares in the holding company, Philippine Hoteliers Inc. (PHI), from Japan Airlines Development Company Limited and JAL Trading Inc. The Hotel Nikko Manila came under the management of Dusit Thani Hotels & Resorts, and was renamed the Dusit Hotel Nikko, Manila. The hotel underwent a major renovation program and became Dusit Thani Manila in April 2008.
