Mrs. Morgan
Hotel Conway
Piccadilly
London SW20 &AC
England

Dear hiring manager,

I would like to apply for the Junior Chef position at Hotel Conway, as advertised in the Daily News 23rd January.

Until recently I have been employed as Chef Assistant at Gransnas Youth Camp, a position which has provided me with a solid foundation and knowledge for a continued career as a chef. I believe that my cooking skills and experience of two years will be of great interest to you and Hotel Conway.

At Gransnas Youth Camp I was responsible for daily purchases of commodities and the preparation of approximately tree hundred meals each day. I therefore have great experience of food preparation and some intermediate baking and cooking skills. I was also in charge of the additional snacks, which were served once in-between each ordinary meal. I have recently also been to an advanced cooking programme which have enhanced my ability to a more independent cook. Furthermore, I was entirely responsible for hygiene and cleanliness of both kitchen and restaurant, which is an experience that always can be useful when managing food and when trying to fulfil customers expectations of a fresh eating environment.

It would be a privilege to work as a junior chef at Hotel Conway and an exciting challenge to help enlarge and develop its’ business in the future. It would simultaneously be an excellent opportunity for further personal development, besides the career enrichment it would contribute to.

I look forward to discussing my experience in greater detail with you or one of your representatives. I will contact you at the end of the week to see if a personal meeting can be arranged. Meanwhile I can be reached at 123-4567, at any time. Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Being employed by the Surf Club of Quogue from the age of 14 hasn’t just taught me ethics and skills in the workplace, it has helped me learn a lot about myself. While my main role is cooking in the kitchen, often times I am called to serve as a handyman. I really enjoy this job because it requires versatility and patience. Even though bussing was my first role, I eventually worked my way up two summers later to become a cook. My specialties in the kitchen are food items like short rib, pulled pork, paninis, burgers, cheesesteaks. Time management is essential when preparing food, especially during the summer rush. I prepare by gathering the required ingredients, setting up my station and making sure all the appliances are properly working to avoid becoming overwhelmed. It is a team effort in the kitchen and communication is key, all employees strive to achieve the goal of presenting the best food possible in the least amount of time and if the entire staff works together, it will be a successful day.…

Fantastic memories of 169 days living in America, almost six months working in Walt Disney World offers an unforgettable experience in my personal life and has great influence in my future professional life. Transferred from an elegant café in Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to a crazy busy character buffet restaurant in Contemporary Resort provides me an opportunity to work in hotels with different styles. At the macro level, it enlarges my theoretical knowledge of many aspects such as Organizational Culture, Human Resource Management, and Service Management. At the micro level, it offers me the chances to apply the theoretical knowledge into practices such as how to work effectively with my co-workers from all over the world (with diverse culture), how to deal with complain from the guests and how to create the surprising atmosphere by making magic moment for the guests. Being a seater in those two restaurants is not easy. Actually I have to do lots of side works such as preparing the crayon and coloring sheet for the kids, folding the napkin and placing the silver-wear in the right position of every table before the restaurant opens. When I greet the guests, I make a sincere smile to them and say “Hi, folks. How are you doing?” Sometimes when I see a guest with bad mood, I will praise her nice dress, his cool suit or talk to the kids with dramatic tone. Especially when I work in Chef Mickey’s buffet restaurant, on the way to the table, I have to introduce the five classic characters and every section of the buffet line to the guests. When we arrive at the table, I have to pull out at…

Catering continued to flourish and in the mid 1800’s Alexis Soyer invented the first catering boiler which used steam to help keep food warm. During the 19th and 20th century many more technical innovations, improvements in transportation, and growing populations helped catering become an important part of the national economy. Today’s catering has evolved from simply providing food for travelers. Catering companies now pride themselves on not only providing appetizing food but also a visually appealing atmosphere, from the presentation of food to linens and decorations. Although the intent of catering has changed throughout the years, it continues to be a vital part of our society (Catering University of Connecticut, 2009).…
