Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle – theory assignment 1 (23/09/09)

Roles, responsibilities and boundaries are qualities which the teacher/trainer incorporates into the teaching/training cycle; the cycle consists of identifying needs, planning and designing, delivery, assessment, and evaluation.

My role as a teacher/trainer is to first identify what needs to be taught by myself so that my students will be able to gain full benefit from the subject they are learning. One of the ways this can be implemented is by referring to a syllabus produced by an awarding body. I have to decide how long the course is going to take and produce a “scheme of work” to plan how and by what methods the learning is going to take place. My role also includes creating a safe learning environment and assessing individual learner’s needs and abilities. The gaining of my students trust and keeping them motivated are also part of my role, as is, the evaluating of each session’s aims and objectives to make sure they are meaningful and applicable to the students. Being knowledgeable and confident in the application of my subject and assessing the students understanding of what they have been taught are important areas of my teaching role.

In my role as teacher/trainer, I take responsibility for maintaining the quality of the teaching practice that I put forward to my students. My responsibilities are monitoring and assessing the students’ progress, making sure that learning has taken place whilst taking into account the learners changing needs. To encourage personal development and growth in the students, by asking them to reflect on how their new found

In general having briefly reviewed the content of pages 12 and 13, most of these roles and responsibilities are concurrent and have a bearing on my role to teach the courses I am involved with. They are based around Kolb’s teaching Cycle Theory, this is identified in Ann Gravells ' book PTLLS “The New Award” page 10. Firstly “Identifying Needs”, Secondly “Planning learning” Thirdly “Facilitating learning”, fourth “Assessing learning” lastly “Quality Assurance and Evaluation”. It must be stated at this point though, that there is no actual first or second or last in this cycle as they are all ongoing points that may change and vary throughout any course of teaching.…

A teacher’s role, responsibilities and boundaries are never set in stone and are always changing to adapt to new situations. With regards to the teaching/training cycle, they are often being assessed and reflected upon. I believe the main role of a teacher is to facilitate learning. By this I mean that the teacher provides the knowledge, tools and information for the learner to then develop and better themselves (Reece and Walker 2009, p35-36). To ensure that sessions aims and objectives are met and are always relevant and meaningful, ongoing assessments within the teaching role need to be made. By assessing the varying learning styles of the group, the teacher can apply or combine different teaching and learning styles to help ensure that all students benefit and get the most from the lessons. A session involving Visual, Auditory and kinaesthetic learning styles ensures students have equal rights to learning (Reece and Walker 2009, p141-142).…

Arrangements would be made to work in line with health and safety requirements, diversity and equality legalisation, and codes of practise laid out by the organisation.Boundaries encountered when enabling learning may include the abilities of the learners e.g. a learner with a specific learning difficulty. Disruptive learners or learners with low motivation levels may have an impact on their peers, and their ability to learn within that environment. Bad organisational skills from the teacher may lead to bad planning and then delivery of the lesson. Assessing learningAs a teacher I would assess progress, following awarding organisations and external body requirements. My responsibilities would comprise of assessing and returning work within the agreed time, and throughout the duration of the course. Giving constructive feedback, and support to the learners. Whilst using a variety of assessment methods and maintaining confidentiality. The assessment methods should be fair and relevant to the course material. It should also be recorded with the guidelines of the organisation.Boundaries that may occur when…

The main role of a teacher/trainer should be to teach in a way which engages learners and actively engage learning during every lesson irrespective of the environment. In my position as IT manager at Barnsley College there are roles and responsibilities that are set to facilitate personal and organisational goals the same can be said for teaching and learning. As a teacher/trainer I will need to be able to adapt my style of teaching by being a friend, counsellor, mentor to ensure that my learners are able to rely on me to meet their individual learning needs. To this end I have the role of assessor, most learners have different learning needs and it is my job to identify these needs as part of the teaching and learning cycle to ensure my students get the best experience of learning possible. I will need to have the skills to promote equality and diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Initial assessments will help me to identify my learners needs which could include poor hand writing, poor reading skills, or any disability that is a barrier to the individuals learning need, A diagnostic test will be carried out to identify individual learner needs and if any further support is required this will then form the root of the individual learning plan. By doing the initial and diagnostic tests this will enable me as the trainer to understand how to apply the different assessment methods to meet the needs of the individual student which in turn may increase the motivation of the student and give me the confidence to deliver the training. Assessing the learners needs skills and knowledge will help to identify any areas that may need to be referred or where advice and guidance can be given to support learners to achieve.…

As a trainer, teacher and assessor my roles are many and varied. As part of my day to day work I may not only deliver lessons but also carry out theory assessments, practical assessments and sometimes interviews. I may have to motivate and liaise as well as guide and assess. I will have to keep records and be a subject specialist as well as liaise internally and impart information and advice sometimes on a personal level. The first impact I play regarding my role is either interviewing possible candidates or meeting and greeting them on the first day of their course. Meeting potential apprentices/apprentices on their first day induction requires me to make a good first impression and aim to create a degree of respect and professionalism from the onset.…

My role is a full role, and my role and responsibilities link to the Teacher/Training Cycle insofar as I assess the individual learner’s needs from the quality of the enrolment paperwork. Also whether an individual may need support in a specific area e.g. spelling, punctuation etc. Learners are usually very forthcoming regarding previous learning experiences and I am very careful to keep my delivery very low key and involve the learner group as much as possible.…

As a teacher, one of my main roles is to motivate my learners, to develop their ability to learn also to develop my learner’s aspiration to learn. When you train to teach you read about delivering training and how to facilitating learning, but in reality you do much more than that, your role as a teacher is not just about teaching your subject or preparing learners for assessment. The focus of your role as a teacher I feel relates very much to inspiring your learners to change and develop their personal, social and professional skills to the best of their ability. My ultimate aim is to enable my learners to understand how to take responsibility for their own development. I would do this by planning and preparing teaching and learning activities that take account of the needs and well-being of individual learners as well as groups of learners.…
