ABSTRACT
The need for banking institution especially commercial banks in Ghana to improve the services of businesses, thus small – scale businesses and the general public have received greater attention from the various stakeholders. The study seeks to examine the contributions of the commercial banks to the development of small-scale firms (Timber). The objectives of the study are therefore to examine the financial problems faced by small-scale timber firms in Ghana and determine the role played by banking institutions in financing small-scale businesses.

Questionnaires and interviews were the main instrument used in the idea of data collection for the study. The data were analyzed and presented, and I was observed that the banks do not usually give loans to the medium and large scale businesses. The study also...
