Chapter I

Introduction

This chapter presents the background of the study, the statement of the problem,

and the significance of the study . The difinitions of terms is also include to provide the

functional and operational definition of the important terms used in the present

investigation.

A. Background of the Study

Nowadays, teenage relationships are almost always present between teenagers

especially among grade 10 students. The rate and the numbers of the statistics of this

kind of relationship are rapidly increasing. In fact in the recent years the rate of teenage

pregnancies, teen drop-outs, STD and HIV rates are alarmingly increasing, and the

cause of all of these numbers is only one, Teenage Relationships. The grade 10 students

who are involved is being affected by this kind of relationship in terms of: attitude towards

things, towards others and even towards life. Yet the most alarming effects are the

teenagers’ attitude towards their studies and in their curriculum in school. Those effects

are what the researchers have investigated in this study. The purpose of the researcher’s

study is to give out the emotional impact of teenage relationship among grade 10

students in their academic performances. The researchers made this study because

they are aware of the effects of teenage relationships to the grade 10 students who are

involved in this situation. The researchers know that with this study it will help teenagers,

peers, parents or friends can help in the academic performances of the grade10

students involved in a relationship, thus preventing them from flunking their grades or

worst dropping out from their schools. In this research paper that the researchers had

made, you would see the emotional impact of teenage relationship among grade 10

students who are involved in a relationship in their 1 academic performances. This study
