Persuasive Techniques Used In Advertising
The car company, Kia, is trying to sell a new car which they say is the most fuel efficient car yet. Kia is advertising their new car, the Kia Niro, which uses celebrity Melissa McCarthy to sell their product. They use Melissa McCarthy to give a “bandwagon” appeal. I feel the ad tries to catch the attention of growing adults with the core aspect of the car, it’s fuel efficiency, but they could possibly catch kids and attention to the humor aspect of the ad. I feel the ad should be directed towards young women who have their driver’s license and older women. It could possibly aim towards other races of people. The ad is also trying to slide in events like the concern on the melting ice caps and the scientists that are trying to fix it all, deforestation that is happening in areas that are heavily populated with trees, and the endangered rhinos in Asia. …show more content…
It also uses ethos to say that it is the most fuel efficient crossover yet which gives off a reliable and trustworthy feel. I think it also uses ethos to say that if celebrity Melissa McCarthy uses it then you should too, as which also gives off a trustworthy appeal.

I think this ad uses the plain folks persuasive technique because a car is something most adults can pay for and is an ordinary thing that people can use. I also think it uses bandwagon because when people see a celebrity that they like using a product then they think that they should get it too and be with the team.

The Kia ad used a celebrity to give a bandwagon appeal, which was Melissa McCarthy.
The ad also brought in current events without telling you that they were going to be brought up. I felt that the demographics that they were trying to portray got the attention of people that they were trying to get. This ad really hit the spot with their demographics and everything because I liked it and it is the best so

    I would say that this commercial was made for a sympathetic audience. Watching it for “Chevy Guys” they will feel for their Chevy’s and probably feel that they are just like the father in the commercial. They would do anything to keep their Chevy running and in the family. This commercial absolutely uses pathos appeal to speak to its audience. When the father looks at a picture of him, his dad and the truck he thinks of all the memories made with this truck and then thinks of all the memories he will make with this truck and his own son. This is a very heartfelt moment and you would be considered soulless if this moment did not tug on your heart strings. To conclude this first part of my Appeals Activity I would say this commercial’s argument is very persuasive. The commercial really tugs at your heart and ties in the sentimental value that we all have with something in our life. This commercial will really speak to true “Chevy Guys” that can recall all of the memories they have with their own Chevy.     The commercial was filmed in a way that pleasantly frames the Impala convertible’s features, purposely pushing viewers to purchase the product. The boy’s excitement and the way the producers contrasted the Impala with the boy’s current car, making the Impala seem impeccable, sways viewers in a favorable direction. The slogan, “What a gal, what a night, what a car!” implies that the car impacted the night and made it highly memorable and enjoyable. However, there isn’t much real evidence. The advertisement relies too heavily upon the use of pathos, which doesn’t have confirmed facts to back the feelings that it evokes. If the commercial had significant logos, or factual evidence, to back it up, it would show itself to be consistently reliable. Examining the source of the commercial, it also becomes obvious that it came from a highly biased one. Since Chevrolet’s goal is to sell a large volume of Impalas, they’re quite willing to enact anything that it may require to convince customers of its worthiness. Combined with the fact that commercials are essentially meant to persuade customers that a certain product is superior, it becomes obvious that Chevrolet was not a reliable source for the production of the commercial. Along with suggesting that the Chevrolet Impala convertible is superior, the commercial evades addressing other competitors’ products. This suggests that Chevrolet doesn’t have enough evidence to demonstrate that their product is superior to that of its competitors.     I would say that this ad uses some rhetorical appeals effectively, but lacks some as well. For example, it uses very strong pathos. Having the child looking into an empty fridge that looks very run down and not well kept. There is not a single food item in it. From the moment, Empire first appeared across our TV screen we were hooked by the wardrobe, the big parties, the music and of course the celebrity appearances. We wanted that lifestyle so bad some people even started to dress just like the popular character cookie or talk like luscious, well, Lincoln Black Label took all of this into consideration knowing how gullible we are. This ad is a bandwagon off the show because of its main representation of the cast mates hoping people will see them with the car and later wanting it too. The evidence that shows how this ad is all about popularity is the title saying “Owning the Empire” this once again shows how the Lincoln car ad is trying to make a connection between, the feeling after buying the car. Above the Empire cast member’s heads there are bold words almost like a title or main characteristic about them below that is a mini paragraph elaborating and using a play on words to illustrate the link to the car with the actors.
