Most Influential Person
College Essay

The most influential person in my life is my mom. She has inspired me to strive for the best in life through her perseverance, strength and how she continues to do what she needs to do even with the challenges she faces daily. My mom and I faced numerous challenges since I was born. She had to stop her college education just to get a job and take care of me. Since then while I’m old enough to take care of myself she has been going back to school to finish her degree and going too work at the same time. With that determination alone she has showed me how to never give up on your dreams and continue too take care of business if I want to be successful in life. She has showed me how the saying, “ its not where you come from but where you are going matters ” more than anything and how staying on a strong foundation with god can continue to lead me on the righteous path. Just by writing this story inspires me more an more to achieve my dreams and do whatever it is I want to do. “I know I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me”, a bible phrase my mom used to have me repeat myself ten times before going to bed. That phrase catches my attention every time just because I’ve seen her do things that most people aren’t even strong enough to do. That’s another characteristic that draws me to the conclusion that she my inspiration. Her strength as a black woman keeps her fighting and fighting everyday because she knows if she fails and quits now, she would be giving up/quitting on her only child and no mother I mean no mother could have that there on their conscious. In my final conclusion I wonder where would I be if I didn’t have such a great and wonderful mother in my life, sure we have are fights and fusses but who doesn’t? Nobody is perfect we can only try to do the right

A person who has had a significant influence on me in my life would have to be my former foster mother, Miss Barbara Pratt. Ms. Pratt was a foster mother to many children before myself and she had had wonderful success with most of them. I had been in an extremely abusive relatives home before I had been placed in Ms. Pratt’s home. When it was discovered that I was in an abusive home I was first placed in a group home in Cincinnati. Social Services worked very hard to find me a home that would help me adjust to a ‘normal’ life as quickly and easily as possible. They found the home my older sister had been placed in, they contacted Ms. Pratt and I was placed in her care.…

The story of Dorothy is truly inspiring. Through the last large portion of her life, she wanted to spend it on helping others. Dorothy neglected the fact that she was on a death list. Most people would stop what she was doing right then and there. She kept going. Dorothy knew that there were people out in the rainforest that needed help and she risked her life everyday to support them. She thought of what the other people needed instead of what she, herself, wanted. Her story influences my life because I see how much God has worked through her and how big of an impact it made on other people. She showed me how faith can be such an important part of a person’s life. My faith life is inspired by her. I saw how big of an impact having faith can have on so…

When he got hurt on the job all the Williams family moved back to Florida and help grandfather; he was blind in one eye. He worked for the ship yard for about 30 years. Both grandparents would tell me stories about the other when they was young having children. My grandmother would say grandfather was handsome and the woman loved him; he was Indian American and causation; very handsome and a cheater. Justina ford inspired me and an insane amount of others related to an African American woman to follow her dreams of being a doctor or whatever they dream of accomplishing. Also, she taught me to try even if there are obstacles trying to stop you . I am not African American or a woman so it would be easier for a man to work up to this kind of job, but this shows that women around the world are trying their hardest to accomplish an accomplishment no one else could think of achieving and to me that is extraordinarily inspiring. Also, she was the first African American woman to become a doctor and that shows me that if one woman can accomplish that then I would enjoy hearing more of what other women in this kind of situation can achieve in order…

I have had multiple influential people in my life, but I'm not going to say my parents or a great teacher, but rather someone closer to my age. Andrew Calton, a good friend and great influence. Andrew helped me “get back on my feet” when I was scared to kayak. I would stay on the lake and not go on rivers because I had no confidence in myself. Late at night he and Jack White, another good friend, came to my cabin at camp and told me there was a spot on a trip and he wanted me to go. I went on the trip and the fact that they wanted me to go boosted my confidence. We went on harder rivers I had never been on and I did not swim, or bail out of by boat once.…

Sometimes in life, you encounter someone who positively changes your own ideals. Personally, that specific person would have to my grandfather, Earl Childers. He is the kind of person who always has time to talk to his grandchildren. My grandfather is the type of community leader who has provided hundreds of jobs to those in need, as well as given inspiration to many. While growing up, my grandfather was a role model to me. Without him in my life, then I would not have been able to develop into such an enthusiastic, young gentleman. As a result of the influence that my grandfather had on me, I have acquired the capability to excel in anything that I exert effort into. He has also shown me the importance of helping others; and, in exchange, I have received a better perspective on life.…
