Personal Narrative: My Grandma Of My Life
There are many people in my life that have inspired me, and I look up to many people, one in particular is my grandma. There are so many things that she has gone through many situations good and bad in her life, but she has never let it set her back. It was never easy for her, she didn’t have the best life as a kid it was very hard. Her dad was an alcoholic and they didn’t have much money. At least she knew what she wanted, maybe she didn’t know exactly what she wanted long term. She knew what she didn’t want in life. One thing is she never gave up; she wanted a horse when she was younger. Obviously they didn’t have enough money to get a horse and take care of it. She also loved kids so she decided to babysit, to …show more content…
At the time she was with her brother at an ice-skating rink. Her dad called the arena and told her she had to come home, hearing the fear in his voice she knew something very bad had happened. They drove home and waited for hours for them to get back from the hospital not knowing anything finally her parents got back but her sister wasn’t there. Her sister Jenifer died but her boyfriend was fine. Of course this was a shock to their family but my grandma got through it and she didn’t let it set her back. Not all the stories about her are sad though. I love how she just likes to have fun, if somebody is with her or not. One time during winter my mom and I drove over to her house. We found her sledding down her hill with nobody but herself, she was still having the time of her life. She’s not willing to waste a good time just because there isn’t anyone there, or it didn’t turn out as she thought. No matter what she always looks at the best of everything. I don’t know exactly what I want to do when I’m older. There is one thing for sure I do know what kind of person I want to be. The kind that stays strong when things are rough, looks at the best of everything, and just has

Her grandmother and I took her to the doctor to try to help her. The doctor did a couple of tests, and a month later we found that she was diagnosed with cancer. Jamilex's grandmother and I didn't want to tell Jamilex because we felt it was going to make things worse. Three months had already passed form Jamilex's mothers death and it felt as if it was just yesterday. Jamilex was so depressed that she began to believe that she wasn't worth anything and that her life didn't make any sense anymore. That's when Jamilex tried to commit suicide. She tried to hang her self, drank Clorox and intoxicated her self with pills; luckily we were able to prevent her death by taking her to the hospital and taking her to counseling sessions. Her Grandmother then decided to be with her at all times, wherever she went, her grandmother would follow her even into the bathroom, the kitchen, or her room. It was hard for me try to help her and make her feel better when at the same time I was depressed just seeing her. But I had to remember to be strong and to show her that life is beautiful. I would try to take her out to the park so she could remember the good memories we had…

She wanted to go out on her own away from her aunt, and just in time she was willed a plot of land for farming. Even though she was just sixteen, and just one person without any help, she decided to go and prove up on it. She just as well could have sold it all for more money than she’d know what to do with, but she wanted to prove up on that land. Later, the book describes her laboured efforts to get it into shape, including near-death experiences and a whole lot of hard work. (spoiler alert) Even after all of her work went down the drain and she failed, having to give up her plot, she still didn’t give up, and started over with less than she began with going…

She did not take crap from anyone, she was feisty and she would let you know what she thought of you. I remember as a child, she would tell us about growing up in the Great Depression. She would talk about how hard it was during this time. She also talked about growing up without a lot of food. She used to make the best brown beans and cornbread which she learned how to make because during the Great Depression, it is all they had to eat. She talked about eating them at least twice a day for months. She was a homemaker most of the time and she had only one job (outside of the house and farm) working in the laundry at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Virginia. She would milk the cows and raise a garden every year. She had been raised in West Virginia and then she moved to South Webster, Ohio, in her…

Everyone loses someone or something they love at some point in their life. I rummaged through my grandpa’s rundown garage and became sad. All I could remember was the raspy sound of his laugh when we talked. He smoked, not a pack a day, but he had been doing it for so long that it hurt him. I continued to sort out the antiques and garbage for my dad, so he could decide what and what not to keep. I found a poster in the garage. He had two posters in his garage that he would always look at because it became boring just sitting there. They were both wrecked but the one I kept was in better shape. He would always joke with me about the girls on the poster and said to never have a girlfriend because girls are too much work. Then my cousin…
