Why I Want To Be A Nhs Essay
I am applying to the WDHS Staff Bursary because I have worked hard to be successful in school through all responsibilities and difficulties that I have encountered. I have displayed qualities like courage and integrity through many situations throughout my life and, specifically through my drive and school experiences. I grew up in a single-parent household and my mother helped me to work hard in school and taught me the many ways to deal with making difficult decisions when need be. However, things became more difficult for both my mother and I when tragedy struck our family when I was nine. My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and this meant that I had to learn to cope and help my mother cope while also working hard in school. It …show more content…
While in tenth grade I took grade eleven science and then, in grade eleven, I took grade twelve math and sciences. This resulted in beginning my grade twelve year with three grade twelve courses already completed because I also took a summer school English course. Overall, throughout my education I have worked hard to do well, putting aside the outside influences of family and friends, in order to pursue my post-secondary path. I not only worked ahead in my courses but being a part of the school community has also been an essential factor. I have participated in clubs at school throughout my four years, but I also volunteer and work outside of school. I am currently a member of Girls Respect Group (GRG) and JUMP; I have been a member since grade 11 and grade 9, respectively. In GRG this year I have held a senior position where my duties are more behind-the-scenes. For example, when we hosted the Women’s Day Breakfast I was in charge of writing donation letters, getting in contact with possible guest speakers, etc.; whereas, younger/newer members did more speaking and running around at the actual event. In JUMP I do not hold any positions because I chose to dedicate more time to Girls Respect Group; however, I am still an active member and attend events and meetings

My father and mother were raised in very different family environments and how they were raised when they were growing up played a very important role in how my parents raised my sisters and me as we were growing up. My father did not ever have to want for anything as he was growing up and was given whatever he wanted by his parents and did not have to worry about how he was going to pay for it. On the other hand my mother had to basically raise herself and that meant that she had to work for what she wanted and if she could not afford it, she could…

I would be an exceptional candidate for NHS because not only do I set good examples in my academics, but also in my community and school. I live off of helping others, that is just who I am. I also am a hard worker, and when I have my mind set, it is set for good. I am interested in joining this organization because I am self-assured that my caring and compassionate personality will continue to help others in a substantial way. With all of this in mind, I am positive that I would be a valuable member to NHS and Carroll Jr. /Sr. High School.…

My mother and father were busy at work, but she always managed to find time to take care of my sister, who was only 3 and ½ years old when they moved to America. It was very tiring for Li, it was even more stressful when she was pregnant with me, she still had to continue working 10 hours a day. Giving birth to me was probably the most painful struggle for her, she went into critical condition due to a c-section. She had loss and a lot of blood, yet, 2 weeks later, she got back on her feet and continued to do her usual. Even after all of that, my mother was still…

Growing up in a single parent home was often difficult. I seen my mother struggle a lot as I got older. I did everything I could to try to help her but I did not help enough. It was also difficult because my mother did not have much education. Seeing her struggle with bills and keeping enough money for our personal reasons made me want to better myself, not only for me but my mom. My mother was so independent that she did not want help from other people. Most of the time my grandpa would come over and watch me for the hours my mom worked. And while I was with my grandpa those hours I learned how to cook. And I really liked doing that. So I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.…

I am very honored of being eligible to become a member of the National Honors Society, becoming a member of the NHS has been one of my major goals throughout my highschool career. It would be a great privilege to represent the NHS as a student with scholarship, leadership, service and character. I believe that as a student I represent these Four Pillars. For instance scholarship represents the hard work that as a student you put into your academics, but to me academics is something that I care much about and take very seriously. I always put effort towards my work by always being responsible and challenging myself to improve in what I have difficulty with. Academics isn’t just simply earning good grades but it is a way that I can improve…

Being accepted into The National Honor Society would be such an apt opportunity, as well as a privilege. By presenting myself as a member of this prestigious society I aim to also service my community and exemplify myself as a student. I have worked extremely hard to maintain my grades at an “A” and above average for all my scholar life. I have mostly succeeded up until my freshmen year. For personal reasons my average dropped greatly, but as you can probably check I’ve made remarkable improvements and will continue to do so. My long-term life goal is to better myself as much as possible and become a respected member in society. I believe that if allowed the opportunity I will give my greatest efforts into trying to maintain this society’s legacy and reputation. Considering my two older siblings have been members in NHS I think I’m well informed of the goals this organization aims to hold. The fact that I could be a third generation member has motivated me tremendously to try and improve my chances by becoming even more studious and involved in school activities. I would exemplify this organization by always servicing other’s needs before my own while still maintain my exemplary leadership qualities. Being in JROTC for two years has taught me many attributes which would, in time, prove to be very useful for NHS. If I’m allowed to enter I will continue to strengthen my skills for my own well-being as well as my community’s well-being.…

My mother "started young", as some would say. Becoming pregnant at seventeen, a mother by eighteen, and losing her father all at the same time, she was faced with reality at a very young age. Taking on the responsibility of motherhood when you yourself are still only a child takes such courage, devotion, and hard work and for that I look up to my mother. She sacrificed her teenage years in an effort to make my childhood everything hers was not.…

Education is very important to my mother. She would read to us and make us take her version of a spelling test, which was insanely difficult. Receiving Honor Roll and Dean’s List were regular occurrences in our household. Neither one of us would dare bring home anything lower than a “B”. And because of that I graduated with honors. During my graduation I could hear my mother’s voice screaming and yelling over the crowd with excitement. At that moment I realized this was her dream for me. She wanted be to be able to attend any college my heart…

When my mom was 20 years old she was premed at Southern University and she discovered; only a second week into her classes that she was pregnant. She made a choice. Either she leave me with my grandparents or drop out and get a job. She dropped out. My mother decided early on that I am her most important asset, more important than an education. My mother decided to open her own hair salon; hair, something she hated doing the most. Three kids later my mom finally decided to go back to school for something she loves which is caring for others. She waited until all of us had gotten older and were able to deal…
