Lesson Plan in Haiku for Grade 8 (Semi-Detailed)
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
A. Tell what a haiku poem is
B. Distinguish the different characteristics of haiku poems
C. Recognize the masters/poets of haiku through their works
D. Read haiku poems with correct feelings, emotions and pronunciations
E. Produce their own kind of haiku poetry
F. Appreciate the art of haiku as the reflection of Japanese culture

II. Subject Matter: Haiku Poetry
Reference: Communicate Effectively Through Literature pp. 79-82 by Ma. Isabel C. Pefainco-Martin
III. Procedure
A. Preparation
The teacher prepares all the necessary materials needed for the lesson.

1. Motivation
The teacher presents five riddles about nature and Haiku. Make the class answer it at the beginning of the class. With every correct answer the student will receive a prize.
Riddles:
1. A blue sheet which covers the whole world. What is it? (Sky)
2. I am sunny. I am hot.
I am windy. I am cold.
It’s warm today.
Yes, what a lovely day.
It’s cold today. Yes what a terrible day. (Weather)
3. What is without hands and without feet,
Without head or body but can open a door? (Wind)
4. In the spring grows old.
In the summer dies,
In the winter comes to life. (Snow)
5. A seashell of syllables
Small and formal in shape
But containing an ocean of thoughts. (Haiku)

2. Introduction
Connect the five different answers from the motivational game which is guessing the riddles with the Japanese form of poetry (haiku). Then the teacher shows different pictures that portray the Japanese culture such as their food, environment, the way they dress, their writings and many more. After that the teacher points out to
