The following ‘outcomes’, need to be met, to show your assessor competency of your work practices. The following outcomes need to be answered to your own working practices, and service users. The enclosed examples are based on elderly/ learning disability service users, so you will need to ‘adjust’ the suggested answers to represent your service user groups, working practice, and experiences.

SHC 32
UNIT 2 Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

Outcome 1 Understand what is required for competence in own work role The learner can:
a. Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role b. Explain expectations about own work role as expressed in relevant standards.

Outcome 2 Be able to reflect on practice
The learner can:
a. Explain the importance of reflective practice in continuously improving the quality of service provided b. Demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice
c. Describe how own values, belief systems and experiences may affect working practice.

Outcome 3 Be able to evaluate own performance
The learner can:
a. Evaluate own knowledge, performance and understanding against relevant standards b. Demonstrate use of feedback to evaluate own performance and inform development.

Outcome 4 Be able to agree a personal development plan
The learner can:
a. Identify sources of support for planning and reviewing own development b. Demonstrate how to work with others to review and prioritise own learning needs, professional interests and development opportunities c. Demonstrate how to work with others to agree own personal development plan.

Outcome 5 Be able to use learning opportunities and reflective practice to contribute to personal Development.
The learner can:
a. Evaluate how learning activities have affected practice
b. Demonstrate how reflective practice has led to improved ways of working c. Show how to record progress in relation to personal development.

Your assessor will ask you to complete workbooks, to cover each unit of this award, which will differ, depending on which awarding body is being used. Therefore, the guidance answers enclosed are based on the ‘outcomes’ for each unit, which will support your knowledge, and evidence for your award.

As a social care worker, your responsibilities will be stated in your job description. As these are personal to the individual, you should look at your job description for details. Along with this you have responsibilities under legislation, and GSCC code of practice. This code is what all workers in care services should abide by. I have included a copy of the GSCC code of practice with this package. As an example statement you may say: “As a social care worker I am responsible for the welfare and safety of my clients, and to provide a service that is tailored to the individual. I apply the GSCC codes of practice to my work practice, and ensure that I maintain and update my training requirements, so I am following current standards of work practices, and techniques..
