Definition Of Ambition
How does one define ambition? Ambition is a tenacious desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. Whether it is negative or positive, many people have been affected by ambition. Ambition is a key quality, the best quality a person can have, until it is taken too far and the line is crossed. There is a difference between chasing a dream and being obsessed, and if somebody doesn’t know the difference it can cause a major downfall. Nobody is born with ambition that makes an obsession become reality. It takes ambition to to be a protagonist. Their product never worked, but never stopped them from trying to achieve their goals. This downfall helped them prepare for Microsoft, their largest project yet. Bethany Hamilton was a renowned surfer, it’s all she ever wanted to do. She started surfing at age eight and by age nine, she had won herself a sponsorship. At the young age of thirteen, she was attacked by a shark, resulting in her losing her left arm. She was back in the water surfing a month after her surgery. Without ambition she would have never touched a surfboard again. It takes courage to overcome incidents that almost take a life.
The music business is nothing to play around with. Owner of Roc-A-Fella Records, Jay-Z, grew up in a harsh Brooklyn neighborhood. When he was a young man, Jay-Z had strong dreams of becoming a famous rapper, but the music industry had a different plan for him. No record label would sign Jay-Z. As Hamilton lay on her surfboard waiting for a wave with her left arm hanging from the side, a tiger shark attacked her without any warning. It took a seventeen inch wide bite out of the surf board and her arm. In the ferocious fight for her life, the shark tore her entire arm off just below her shoulder before vanishing. Hamilton quickly swam to shore only using her remaining arm and Blanchard’s father used a surf leash as a tourniquet to help stop her from bleeding to death before she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
