Giovanny Cordero
Organizational Behavior
September 30, 2013 Chapter 7 Assignment
The Big Easy
1) In my personal, I’m agree with what the data show because nowadays the students are taking more priority in socializing (party, girls, and other factors) than school. For example I heard some friends saying I’m going to this school because the party time in that school is amazing. Those are some examples of how students are wasting their time.
2) In this question I think students do have ethical responsibility to study because the education is the key of success in the majority of the cases. Also, nowadays this society divides the people thru their education status and their knowledge about a topic.
3) This fact concerned me because I’m realizing that older people do have better education than us in this actual world, but at the same time I think the reason of this fact is that before they were not many entertainment and technology as today. I think that experts in economic are right about the competiveness because is a fact that education and knowledge are key factors in a business.

Case Incident 2
1) Organizational Justice refers to the ethical fairness in a workplace. With this being said, Work Bullying violates the fairness in a workplace because it violates the ethics and the fairness with the employers.
2) I think bullying doesn’t help in a positive way to self-efficacy because a worker suffering bullying does not focus in the work and that reduce the chances of doing a good job. I think that it will depend the situation, if the job is worth it probably I would retaliate in a good way.
3) The first step that I would do will be talk to president or the manager of the place, and then I would try to show the managers the violation of the boss by reading the handbook of the rules or showing the manager how the boss is bullying me by a record or something similar. The least effective strategy

One of the main ideas discussed in the article is the environment view, as it explains why the bullies and victims are part of an unacceptable behavior. The author’s main point is that bullying has become an epidemic in the workplace, which damages the physical, emotional, and mental health of the victim. The environment view is the root of bullying as it begins with dysfunctional organizations. For example, Vartia says “Bullying is seen as a symptom of organizational dysfunction. Empirical evidence has shown that it is correlated with many features of the work environment, including organizational problems, experienced role conflicts, work control, a heavy work load, increasing haste at work, high stress, organizational restructuring, change of management, low satisfaction with leadership or ‘negative’ management styles, …” (2003, p. 12). All these characteristics make the members of the organization do what they want because of poor leadership and discipline. Negative management style does not help employees to work effectively. When there is no leadership and proper management, employees feel superior to others and take power and misuse it to harm their peers. The environment view is relevant to our understanding of bullying because it facilitates ideas why bullying begins in the workplace. Knowing the causes of the problem helps implement solutions to resolve the…

In an organization, the use of power comes in many shapes and forms. Hierarchical power is known to be the typical distribution of power in most organizations. For example, a business usually consists of a President, followed by a general manager, department manager and finally, the employees. Decisions occur in a hierarchical linear process, from the bosses down to the employees. Other forms of power in organizations can be more subjective. Power may not always take the typical hierarchical or down-the-ladder approach. That being said, the use of power can greatly affect desired outcomes. In a study of Midwifery students, Kantek and Gezer argue that “the use of power strategies in teacher–student relationships affects students’ learning, school experiences, motivation, accomplishment, satisfaction, future career expectations, mood, and method of handling conflict” (2010). The inappropriate use of power in an organization can result in immediate and irreparable effects. These effects can foster less than favorable work environments leading to unreceptive and unmotivated workers. Conversely, power can take a more inspirational or contagious approach. This type of power is known as referent power. Peers and coworkers alike are influenced by individuals that possess this type of power. In this paper, a case study will be presented that identifies an organizational problem highlighting the effects of power. This will set in motion the opportunity for future research and finally, a group action plan that…
