The topic that been selected by our group is Team Effectiveness Model. The reason we choose this topic because without we realize, we also practice teamwork in our daily life. Furthermore, our video also related about teamwork and it show that how the importance of teamwork is to ensure the task given can be finish successfully. A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.
Firstly, team is established to study specific problem and recommend solution. These teams typically work with target completion date and disband once their purpose has been fulfilled. Members of these teams must be learn quickly how to work well together, accomplish the assigned task and make good action recommendations for follow-up work by other people.
Besides that, there are functional groups and work units that perform ongoing tasks. Members of these teams must have good long-term working relationships with one another, solid operating systems and the external support needed to achieve effectiveness over a sustained period. They also need energy to keep up the pace and meet the day-to-day challenges of sustained high performance.
A team is effective when it benefits the organization, its members and its own survival. First, most team exist to serve some organizational purpose, so effectiveness is partly measured by the achievement of those objectives. Second, a team’s effectiveness includes the team relies on the satisfaction and well-being of its members. People join groups to fulfill their personal needs, so effectiveness is partly measured by this need fulfillment.
Finally, team effectiveness includes the team’s viability its ability to survive. It must be able to maintain the commitment of its members, particularly during the turbulence of the team’s development. Without this commitment, people leave and the team will fall apart. The team must also secure sufficient resources and find a benevolent environment in which to operate.
The main components in team effectiveness model are organizational and team environment, team processes, team design, and team effectiveness. The organizational and team environment represents all conditions beyond the team boundaries that influence the effectiveness. Team members tend to work together more effectively when they are at least partly rewarded for team performance. High performance teams also depend on organizational leaders who provide support and strategic direction while team member focus on operational efficiency and flexibility. Communication system can influence team effectiveness, particularly in virtual team, which is highly dependent on information technologies to coordinate work.
Secondly, in team design, leader need to carefully design the team itself, including task characteristic, team size, team composition and team roles. Task characteristics is complex work requires skills and knowledge beyond the competencies of one person. Team size generally, should be large enough to provide the necessary competencies and perspectives to perform the work and also small enough to maintain the effectiveness. While, employees must have more than technical skill and self-leadership to perform their own work in team composition. Teams roles is a set of behavior that people are expected to perform because of the positions they hold in a team and organization.
