1. What is the effect of Stoker’s epistolary format for the novel? In what ways does it create suspense for the reader? How does it lend verisimilitude to an otherwise fantastic tale?

2. Discuss the characters of Lucy Westenra and Mina Harker. How are they similar? How are they different? In your opinion, is Lucy inherently more vulnerable to becoming Dracula’s victim? What aspects of Mina’s character might make her better able to resist being overcome by Dracula and turning into a vampire herself?

3. Even though Arthur Holmwood, Quincey Morris and John Seward are initially all competitors for Lucy’s hand, they remain friends even after Lucy has made her choice.
