Values In Leadership Legacy
During the Leadership Legacy Series for values and beliefs, students from the Honors Leadership Program gathered to learn more about what each person values. Everyone was presented with the same list of values and we were told to rank those values. It was very difficult for everyone to decide which things in life were the most important to us and which things could be cast aside. If that wasn’t hard enough, the next job was assigning a dollar value to each of our values. While some people decided to spread out their allotted budget, others decided that the top values on their lists could not be spared at any cost. In other words, some people assigned their entire budget to one value to show how much they cared about that one top value. However, …show more content…
That meant that either the whole group would have to forget about those values altogether or they would just be given lower proportions of the total budget. While it was frustrating to hear that as a group member, we had to remember that we were working as a team towards what we thought was most important to us as a whole, not as individuals. As the auction went on, most groups found that they were able to buy the values that they really cared about, usually by having to pay out large sums of money for them. By the end of the auction, it seemed as though most students that were involved felt they had won, regardless of the fact that the whole activity was not a competition. The auction came down to deciding what was more important: making sure we have many of our own values as possible or making sure we get the values that we can’t live without no matter the cost. Taking part in this activity helped us all to think about what is most important in our lives and the steps, however strenuous they may be, we need to take to get where we want to be while still holding onto our
