SMAD: Social Media Anxiety Disorder
SMAD, also known as “Social Media Anxiety Disorder,” is where people are so addicted to their media lives that they always have to have their smartphone on them.
Honestly I’m not surprised about the high amount of people with SMAD because in today’s society we are based on the Internet.
If someone doesn’t text me back within an hour then I usually take it in a negative way. If I am texting someone and it takes them a while to answer I always wonder if they’re ignoring me or they just don’t want to talk to me anymore. Netiquette is Net
Etiquette. Some examples know what to say and what not to say, knowing what to post and what not to post. Looking at the examples of SMAD I’d have to say I definitely do have it. I get worried if people don’t answer quickly, If I post a picture up on a social media network or a status and no one likes it then I feel like people don’t like me or stuff like that. The article says if you are having theses symptoms then to turn your computer,
Take deep breaths, if you’re driving pull to the side of the road and answer. I agree with that 100%. A tweet or text is not more important than you’re life and if you’re driving and texting then you have a giant risk for something bad to happen. If you’re getting upset because of something going on in your social media life that you don’t like then delete it or block it or turn off your computer for a while and settle down. Don’t let someone else ruin your day.

If you were to die from a fatal crash, because you were texting while driving, imagine the grieving that loved ones in your life would go through. What if the day that happened you were arguing to a family member or even just a close friend, and the last thing you said to them was hateful if you were to pass just because of a text you would never get the chance to set things right, that person might even feel guilty and carry that with them throughout life. Sure the physical impact of a wreck while you were texting and driving could kill you or even severely injure you, but to even think of an emotional impact that it would have on loved ones wondering if you will be alright or if you are even going to live after your wreck would be terrible. A text can wait, because without you your family might never be the…

I wonder if anyone ever stops to think that taking their attention away from the road is a bad thing. It was taught in Driver’s Ed to always keep your eyes on the road and just how do you suppose you’ll do that if you’re enthralled by the world’s latest technology? The National Safety Council estimates that drivers using their cell phones and texting cause at least 1.6 million car crashes and 2,600 deaths each year. That is at least one million people injured and 2,000 families devastated and stricken with grief just because someone couldn’t wait until they got home to answer a stupid text message. Just think about how you could be the cause of someone’s death, their hysterical parents, and their distraught family members because you felt that your friends’ message had to be answered right away.…

Technology has become increasingly advanced in today’s society. Specifically, texting has become the modern and faster way of communication. From being able to talk to someone across the country to letting someone know one is at his or her door, everyone seems to love this new innovation. But when does texting go too far? Randy Cohen examines this question in his article, “When Texting is Wrong.” In Cohen’s article, he explains the downside and inappropriate times for texting and the effects from it. Cohen goes on to explain that specifically the younger age groups are affected more by cell phone use than older age groups because they have been surrounded by technology for a longer period of time. According to Cohen’s…

Okay, so I care. But despite caring, I've found that there isn't a scare, short of an accident, that will deter me from texting while driving. Not even the law. And being that I'd rather not die, or kill you, all in the name of an anecdotal text that just as well could have been typed while in park, I've since developed a set of rules. These rules, when followed, have been as fool-proof as directions for walking while chewing a piece of gum (excuse the triteness). I no longer swerve. I'm no longer forced to slam on my brakes. And for the past eight months, my "Texting While Driving Protocol" has saved both our lives.…

A text message is defined as “the exchange of brief written messages between fixed-line phone or mobile phone and fixed or portable devices over a network.” Along with email and online chatting systems, text messages are one of the most commonly used e-services by the average consumer. According to a 2010 study by Pew Research Center, over 286 million Americans subscribe to text messaging, and those users send, on average, 152.7 billion text messages per month. A study by Car and Driver magazine showed that texting and driving causes delays in reaction times that are up to 17.5 times more dangerous than drunk driving, and at that the chance of life threatening crash while texting and driving is up to 23 times more likely than during non distracted driving. In 2009, a Virginia Tech study also showed that distracted driving, including texting and driving, caused 81% of fatal accidents. With figures like…
