Every time you look down at your phone, your eyes are off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That is plenty of time for a crash to happen. Texting while driving is severely dangerous on the road while operating a vehicle. Texting while driving interrupts it cognitively as you think about the texting message instead of on the road. It interrupts it manually as your fingers type the message back to another person. It interrupts it visually as you look down at your phone. All of these are reasons why texting while driving should be illegal in every state. The government has started to realize that texting while driving is starting to become a nationwide problem. People do not need to communicate every second, every minute, and every hour of everyday. There are so many sad stories about texting while driving. A lot of innocent people are dying each day because of their actions or because of others and that should not be happening. Texting while driving is not worth killing or dying over! Every day we witness multiple tragic accidents involving people texting and driving. In my paper I will be arguing that the state of Minnesota should act boldly to create tougher laws on texting and driving offenders, and also create laws to ban people from using hands-free cell phones in their vehicle unless needed for an emergency. Also it is to be determined the meaning of texting and driving, the people involved, the laws needed to enforce it, which is affected when someone is injured or killed; and what is being done about it.…

Texting while driving is a major problem in the modern world. It is distracting and hazardous, not only to the drivers, but the individuals around them as well. Because young people are obsessed with technology and social media however, they frequently engage in texting while driving far more than their adult counterparts. A Tred Films Production’s video “Cow” by Watkins-Hughes addresses the issue of young people, teenagers in particular, putting themselves and others in danger by texting while driving. The target audience in the video is high school students, whose obsession with phones, primarily texting while driving, leads to dangers on the road. The director’s overall goal in targeting high school students is to expose these dangers and make teens reconsider their careless actions. You shouldn’t talk on your cell phone while driving because being distracted by a phone conversation is similar to driving while intoxicated. Talking on the phone while driving can cause you to react more slowly when an unexpected driving hazard emerges or perhaps to never see the hazard until it’s too late. Of all the distracted driving-related accidents, nearly 18% of them were caused by people being on their cell phones. Even if the driver wasn’t physically holding the cell phone but was on some sort of a hands-free device, he or she was still distracted from the surrounding environment, which led to accidents.…

The popularity of mobile devices has had some unintended and even dangerous consequences. Accidents due to texting and driving are becoming more popular and more frequent. A texting driver is twenty-three times more likely to get into a crash than a non-texting driver. When the cell phone was first invented it was made as a personal safety device especially if a person lived alone or some distance from family members. Many of us may line in regions of the country where sudden tornado or hurricanes could occur without warning. Then there are other events such as fires, flooding, and blizzards that may require a quick evacuation or move to a shelter. A cell phone is important to either get help to let others know a person’s location and level of safety. In today’s society cell phone are being used for texting and talking while driving. I would be lying if I said I never text while driving. I recognize the dangers, and try to do it as little as possible. However, there are still incidents that occur. Wednesday, I was driving down Eisenhower Avenue, and I received a text from my dad asking how my day was going. I went to reply and took my attention away from driving. Staff Sergeant Taylor spotted me and that is why I am writing this essay. Doing what I did immediately endangered myself, and anyone else that could have been around me. Due to my irresponsible action I also endanger drivers that surround me while texting. I have no ability to respond to events as they occur around me on the road. Even if I may be able to text while driving and maintain control and crashing if someone around was to do something dumb, my ability to react safety is severely…
