Year 9 Health Essay.
Smoking has been banned in sports advertising in Australia, should alcohol and fast food be to?
I think that Alcohol and fast food should be allowed in advertising because it doesn’t really harm anyone they just want to get it out there and show their support. They can also sponsor the sport like Cricket is sponsored by KFC, MacDonald’s was sponsoring the Olympics by bring out mini figures of people from the Olympics or just by giving some money to help the team travel over.
If I saw smoking or alcohol in advertising I wouldn’t be tempted to go drinking or have a cigarette or the same with fast food. But that is different for some people because they have alcohol at some sporting matches because that is just what the people that are sponsoring do they help out at home games or they may even travel with the team and offer free food or drinks for the team. I also think that some of the businesses supporting a sporting team are also businesses that make things to do with sports like drink bottles, sports balls and sports equipment.
With KFC and the cricket I don’t think that the cricket team would actually eat KFC because they have got to have a healthy diet to maintain their lifestyle. But I think they advertise it to get the fans into KFC and the cricket, they want to show their support and that they are behind cricket. With alcohol in advertising, alcohol can be very harmful in huge doses they do sell it to people at the cricket and many people drink too much of it. And it’s advertised a lot at sporting events because they want to sell it which is the main reason for advertising, if someone wants to advertise at the cricket then they must pay a fee to get it up there. Then that money either goes to the cricket team or the stadium.
I think that someone may have an opposite point to me because fast food and alcohol are bad for you and they are being put into sporting events which is temping more people to drink or eat fast food. Which could

The super bowl is the most anticipated event of the year as it relates to advertising. There will be millions of viewers watching the NFL showdown this weekend as the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks go head to head for the championship. This year several new companies like Jaguar, Nestle, Intuit etc. will make their super bowl debuts in efforts to increase the interest of consumers and to escalate their overall sales. Logically speaking you would think that any company who gets their commercial aired during the game would earn a tremendous amount of supporters, but is this…

Over the last several years, it has become undeniable that any kind of sport can, and will, be sensationalized and commercialized by the people from the great companies like "Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, and Marlboro" (1667). These companies have hundreds of thousands of dollars budgeted each year to pour into sports in the form of sponsorships, advertising, etc. Once the sponsorships are introduced into a sport, it is exactly the kind of thing that will push an athlete out of competition. An athlete will find himself in a "make-it or break-it" situation. If an athlete receives a sponsorship, then the money is free flowing for equipment, testing, training, etc – anything that the athlete wants or needs to aid in putting himself in a winning position so that the sponsoring company can recoup its investment. Without sponsorship, it is a near hopeless situation for the athlete. The more a sport becomes commercialized, the higher the cost of participating for the athlete. One example would be that there are entry fees established to help raise monies that will be awarded to the winner and the sponsoring company.…

On one hand, the staggering popularity of sport is due, to no small extent, to the enormous amount of attention provided it by the mass media. This could generate more business men and women to come after work to see the game. It will be a lot cheaper for them to give tickets to their employees for some reason or taking a client to a game for some beer and food. Since they aren't really advertising their players and games they're not getting the attention they need for the sport. So with the big company to sponsor it might generate other businesses to do the same thing.…

Advertising to smoke is illegal nowadays but if you look back at old football & cricket games there was advertising everywhere, and even Formula 1 cars were sponsored by a tobacco companies. This law/policy has changed because smoking is becoming more popular internationally (which was probably because most people that smoke now started when all the advertising was allowed) which means that they took notice of the advertisements they saw when they were younger and have been addicted to cigarettes.…

various media for exposure through sponsorship, television is the most effective and constitutes a relatively cheap form of advertising. Carlsberg beers, for example, might sponsor Liverpool Football Club to the tune of two million pounds, but, if the team has a successful year, the distinctive Carlsberg logo will be seen on our television screens for the full ninety minutes of a dozen or more league and cup games. Other games will have their highlights shown, plus the best goals will get repeated ad nauseam, so there could well be upwards of thirty hours of television time in which we are constantly reminded that Carslberg beers are the sponsors of Liverpool F.C.…

    Fast Food, Who to Blame

It is true that the fast food companies were more emphasized on their marketing strategy than our citizens’ health. The “super size” marketing strategy had trained us to think that “oceanic drinks and gargantuan portions are normal” (Browniee, 21). I do agree that fast food companies’ excessive marketing is really profitable for them and they don’t put our health in the first place. But I think it is the people who made the bad choice for their health. The point of the fast food is to save peoples’ meal time when they are in a hurry. It is convenient and cheap but also insures our daily needs of protein, calories, Cholesterols and a bunch of necessary Minerals. It’s not the best source of healthy food but it’s defiantly better than eating a chocolate bar or instant noodle when people are in a hurry.…

Based on 2009 US Industry report, there were 303,989 fast food locations in the US alone. “Fast food was the main food source for up to 38% of children” stated researcher Shanthy Bowman, PhD, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland. She also demonstrated that when kids eat fast food, they eat more food all day long and over one year time period, a child can pack on 6 extra pounds because of high fast food eating. The result of overeating is a nation that is becoming obese and overweight. The result of obesity? More illness and soaring healthcare problems. When we say fast food, we are thinking 'junk food ' yum...(insert drool here). Fast food has become one and the same from hamburgers to pizzas, to French fries, hot dogs and more. Fast food has high calories, fats, saturated fats, sugar and salt content. The fats, sugar, and salt in fast food draw us kids like a magnet and because fast food doesn 't contain much fiber we don 't feel full afterward so we tend to eat more later on. Compared with kids didn 't eat fast food, fast food eaters ate an average of 187 more calories a day. At that rate, “the child would gain 6 extra pounds each year, if they didn 't get enough exercise to burn…

Throughout the years advertisement has played a big part in the growth and popularity of many products in our country. Since the 1920’s advertisements have been used for cars, clothes, food and materialistic things that people want or think they have to have. In the mix of all these advertisements, alcohol is the most used, sought after, and dangerous advertisement in the industry. After the prohibition the safety of the people has been the number one concern since alcohol hit the streets. Having corporate sponsorships in schools gives them the opportunity to infest kids minds with products than can be detrimental to not only their minds but their health. School is not the place for advertising products that can harm kids mentality and jeopardize their health. Schools should be a haven for learning but constant exposures to “Coca Cola” or “Mc Donald's” can intrude into a kids mentality. Students having to go into learning environments indulged with corporate advertisements makes the schools loose its educational integrity. However, advertisements in schools is no different from what kids are exposed to on a daily basis outside of school. Although I agree that some advertisements in schools can be pernicious not all advertisements are harmful to the students, and with the financial burdens of many schools, leading towards corporate sponsorships is the most effective decision for improvement. This provides students with the proper equipment, programs and opportunities to make the most of their education…

While there is still a strong connection between alcohol and sports, alcohol distributors and manufacturers must carefully approach how they present alcohol together with sports in their TV commercials. While the FTC rarely fines alcohol advertisers, most people feel that they push acceptable limits with their inaccurate glorification and presentation of alcohol. Therefore, alcohol has actually resulted in TV alcohol ads being very creative and humorous. Coincidentally, Super Bowl TV ad spaces cost a few million dollars.…
