Outcome 4.1 Explain the policies and procedures of the setting or service in response to accidents, incidents, emergencies and illness.
Accident Book – Each room has an accident and incident book, with clear guidelines. The books are stored in the main office. They are numbered carbon pages and a copy is always kept inside the book, all information is stored in a locked cupboard for confidentiality, once a form is completed two people are to sign the carer who has written it and also the manager on duty. Written on the form will be the name of the child, todays date, and the incident or accident that has taken place, any first aid which has taken place, and if a review has taken place at what time and who reviewed it. With this form it will then be presented to the child’s parent for them to sign that they have acknowledged the child has had an accident or incident, by having these forms we would be able to monitor if a child had re-occurring injuries which is something that would be shown to our safeguarding officer.
Illness – the polices of the nursery for dealing with illness, the parents would bring them into the nursery, if the child was ill with sickness then the parent would have to take them home and not bring them back until 48hours after last sickness, if the child had a temperature we would recommend the parent taking them to see a doctor, we would then write in our diary to follow up after a few days as a courtesy call to check on the child.
Policies for the setting for fire evacuations – in each room the route is highlighted of where the nearest exit is, we regularly have fire drills on a monthly basis and would evacuate the building. The alarm is raised using the heat and smoke detectors, the control panel is in the entrance hallway and it will let you know where the fire is coming from. The managers and room leaders will do a register of who is in the building each doing a register for age group rooms. All staff are to remain calm and
