Teamwork can also help increase the productivity and improve the quality of the product a company produces. The first thing that the management should do to build a team it to find people that have the skill that can help complete the task given to them. They should also be able to get along with each other so that they can work together to accomplish this task. After getting the team together, the manager should give each team a specific assignment. That way each team can focus on their particular assignment and not worry about the assignments of the other teams. There should also be several managers that can get together to form a management team. These management teams would coordinate and give direction to the teams that are under them. The management teams should also lay out the ground rules of the team and what types of behavior are acceptable. After the team is organized the team should brainstorm about how to fix the problems that the Sandwich Blitz is having. They also need to stay focused on solving these problems and not get frustrated and lose interest

Each Sandwich Blitz location is situated on very small parcels of land. This original strategy has contributed to somewhat lower operating expenses for the business and both Dalman and Lei view this as a competitive advantage. Based on new local health codes, new laws have been issued requiring trash dumpsters be a minimum distance of 30 feet (9.144 meters) from the rear entrance of the building. New land-use laws require that all out buildings be at least 6 feet (1.8288 meters) from the property lines. The enclosure that houses the trash dumpster is 5 feet (1.524 meters) from the property lines, which is in violation of those laws. The government inspector has told the unit manager that he would be willing to approve this if Sandwich Blitz provides the food for his department's holiday party. 1) Creating a new position between the CEO and the location manager would help the business to grow many ways. First it would allow Dalman and Lei to focus on the greater goal of the company, and leave the researching of franchising or opening up more company owned shops to the potential position. This position could take away a lot of the stress that the two feel as business owners, he or she could handle a lot of the necessary tasks, and then give Dalman and Lei a monthly briefing, allowing them to still be a part of the decision making process, but without all of the added stress.…

Over the last 3 months, Dalman and I have been receiving an increasing number of reported errors. The most recent month shows 15% reported errors on total orders, which is unacceptable. Moreover, the Rocking Burger, our direct competitor, is constantly advancing using the most up to date equipment. Dalman and I totally understand that changing something that all of us got used to over years is very difficult. Being an elite team, I believe that we can do it and improve our business. In order to improve our service, we need to resolve the overwhelming volume of customers problem. This improvement is not only for us, the managing team, but also…

Creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers will help the business to grow because this newly created role will help to clear up time for Dalman to focus on the other aspects of his position. Since he is spending so much time on talking with location managers, other portions of Sandwich Blitz, Inc. could be suffering from it. Not only that, but adding in the factor that he is just one person makes is clear that a new level in management would help with growing the other managers into the best managers possible. Promoting an existing manger is a good option to fill this position as they are already very familiar with the organization. With the added benefit of having the experience of working in the role as manager to give them a better understanding and insight into what issues and problems can be found within a location.…

Self-managed teams are autonomous work groups in which workers are trained to do all or most of the jobs in a unit, have no immediate supervisor, and make decisions previously made by first line supervisors (Snell, 2013, p. 285). Implementing such teams within Sandwich Blitz could potentially prove to be advantageous by promoting empowerment, increased employee commitment, better customer satisfaction, and improved quality control. Cross training every team member to do the job above and below them would mostly eliminate the day to day struggles of each location in that they would more easily be able to deal with personnel shortages and overall workload could be distributed more evenly. Given Sandwich Blitz past successes, Dalman’s knowledge of business operation can be passed to each team member so they better understand why things are done a certain way. In passing this knowledge, doing so could spark interest in team members to develop better processes since they have a better understanding of how the business should look. With everyone on the same sheet of music, all the little issues that Dalman has been tending to could potentially be eliminated with the occasional larger issue that requires his expertise.…

After reading the scenario, I think Dalman and Lei have a lot to think about. Before making any decisions Lei and Dalman should weigh their options. I think the strengths of expanding their businesses with two new franchise operations could save Dalman and Lei some money by working together with the new operations. They also wouldn’t have to worry about more competition when the new franchises open.…

As Lei has discovered issues regarding any discrepancies on different actions taking by different employees whether it be an employee reporting hours not yet worked and other duties that employees are expected to perform and are evaluated on that are not defined in a clear manner in the employee handbook it is clear that she must use the four step process of developing a bureaucratic control system. These steps are: setting performance standards, measuring performance, comparing that performance against the standards and looking for any deviations from it, and then taking action to correct problems and reinforce successful performance.…

The Ethical decision would be the right thing to do. Setting moral principles and standards and showing the right behavior to employees as well to the people of the community it shows when managers apply ethical standards, it will also show the community that the company makes good ethical decisions. Which keeps the Sandwich Blitz with good reputation. “Unethical Behavior can happen anywhere not just in the business world.” It occurs when police officers “take care of parking tickets” so friends and family members do not have to pay fines.” Unethical Behavior is all around us, and it’s true for the citizens that doesn’t know anyone that’s associated with anyone that’s involved in law enforcement. Companies with strong ethics have found that the efforts can reduce potential costly fines decrease in vulnerability, improvement in their reputation provides great access to capital. Dalman should follow the new regulations of the local health codes that have been issued regarding the trash dumpsters. It seems like a great deal for the government inspector to approve the regulations if the Sandwich Blitz provides the food for his department holiday party, but that’s when ethical behavior should step in. Corporate social responsibility should be shown responsible by taking care of the people that works for the company at hand. It is the job of the employer or the human resource manage to treat the employees in a way that the look forward to coming to work each and every day and are proud to tell other people where they work. An employer or HR manager who deploys corporate social responsibility in the workplace should have a larger view of human welfare, and a long term perspective about the consequences of today’s workplace.…

Self-managed teams can be very useful in taking most of the extra stress off of upper level managers. The team is trained to do all the jobs in the store. They are given the freedom to plan and control the work they do. By using self-managed teams Dalman and Lei can invest their time more effectively in expanding the company. They should pick people that are energetic and enthusiastic. Keeping in mind the different skills the self-managed team should possess. LaFasto and Larson (2002) note that teams are very different from each individual employee because each team member must not only work on their own goals and the teams objectives, they must also be collaborative with the other members of the team. In order for a team to be most effective, it depends on a collegial atmosphere similar to the one created by Nike vice president and CFO Don W. Blair who states that he ôseeks to create the milieu that builds organizational capacity to keep us competitiveö (Knowledge@Wharton, 2005, p. 2). The effectiveness of this collegial atmosphere resounds through much of the literature. Kouzes and Posner (2007), note that one of the most important ingredients…
