Professional Organizatio Leadership Development
Leadership is not a born skill it develops with time and training. Leadership is a process described in which it involves a skill that inspires others to work hard to complete the work needed. Leaders inspire and empower others and bring out the best in people through their leadership skills. Leadership development is essential to any business as leader's plan, control, organize and lead within the company (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007, p.245).
Employees develop leadership skills through several ways. One way to gain these skills is to attend class-based leadership training programs. Professional organizations offer these class-based leadership programs through their organization. Two organizations that provide these type of courses is the American Management Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Care Access Management (NAHAM). Professional organizations such as these offer classroom training and online classroom training sessions that cover leadership development topics.

On the job training, can occur through apprenticeship and mentoring. Two examples of companies offering this type of on the job training are Cardinal Health and Baxter. The similarities in these programs are that they are both designed to provide interested applicants the opportunity to work in an area of their interest as they are learning new skills. As the candidates work through these programs, they are learning new skills and experiences as they are being mentored or becoming an apprentice to a senior level employee. The differences between the two types of on the job training are that apprenticeship involves watching and learning a senior leader, someone you want to be like someday and with mentoring you are being offered help or training as guidance for your position.
