In this article, you will have a brief idea about the duties and responsibilities of every barangay official that had been elected by their constituents.
The Punong Barangay or the Barangay Chairman is the executive head of the smallest unit of the government. He or she is in charge of the governance, development planning, basic services and facilities, compliance to directives, barangay legislation, and fiscal administration. The treasurer on the other hand is responsible of all of the funds of the barangay. From the budget for properties, budget for projects, and budget for the salary of the officials, he/she must take care of it.
As for the seven barangay councilors, they all have their specific tasks that will be assigned by their chairman. They must be on the barangay hall once a week to accommodate the people coming every now and then in their office.

Formulate measures to eliminate drug addiction.
Maintain cleanliness and beautification of their area.

On the national level, the King of Spain, through his Council of the Indies (Consejo de Indias), governed through his sole representative in the Philippines: the Governor-General (Gobernador y Capitán General). With the seat of power in Intramuros, Manila, the Governor-General was given several duties: he headed the Supreme Court (Real Audiencia), was Commander-in-chief of the army and navy, and was the economic planner of the country. All known executive power of the local government stemmed from him and as vice-regal patron, he had the right to supervise mission work and oversee ecclesiastical appointments. His yearly salary was P40,000. For obvious reasons, the Governor-General was usually a Peninsular (Spaniard born in Spain) to ensure loyalty of the colony to the crown.…

The barangay knows exactly what problems does exist on their barangay. They provided some solutions to solve these problems, however, it is not enough to thoroughly solve them. One of their solution in case of the flooding of their place is to clean their canal regularly with the help of MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) and DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways).
