Modest Clothing In The Bible
Clothing and how girls/women are to dress is definitely not a grey area in the Bible.
In I Timothy 2:9 and10 we are told what to adorn ourselves with. “I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes but with good works, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”
What a beautiful sight it is to see a lady with great modesty! Not just on the inside but also in what she wears! I have a few such special women of God in my life.

J. Mahaney describes immodesty this way: “Immodesty, is much more than wearing a short skirt or low-cut top; it’s the act of drawing undue attention to yourself. It’s pride, on display by what you wear.” And that can be pride in your looks, your taste, or your purchasing power
One should remember that what is considered modest or appropriate varies depending on culture and context. It changes from woman to woman, depending on body type, personality, personal convictions and places and seasons in life.
While we may long for a universal dress code that would make all of this simpler, we aren’t given one!
However, here are a few questions to consider…that will help keep a check on modesty in clothing
• When you leave your room in the morning, can men outside your family look at you as a sister in Christ who is encouraging them to holiness, and not a stumbling block?
• Can unbelievers see you as temperate and self-controlled in your clothing?
• Do you look like a thankful servant who points to her Creator, or like someone in love with the world and the things in the world?
• Is your intent to show the grace and beauty of womanhood? • Does the clothes that you are wear help you to do the work that you need to that day honouring Him as you serve in His

The Hebrews had different types of clothing. First of all, they used linen, cloth, wool, and skin for different types of clothing (Ancient Civilization pg. 217). For example, the hebrews used linen to make sandals (Exodus 26:36). However in Deuteronomy 22:11 it says if they wanted to make some clothing they couldn't combine wool and linen. The Hebrews usually used linen, wool, and skin for clothing (Leviticus 13:48). Second of all, Ancient Hebrew men wore different clothing than women(Ancient Civilization pg.217). Another example is that the hebrews werent allowed to combin different fabrics. Hebrew men wore tunics made of linen, in the cold they wore wool or sheep skin cloaks. They also wore sandals, and caps or tubans on thier heads.…

Clothing is one of the big differences in our culture. First is not required by any law of God the way we dress. In our culture some people dresses with luxury and that is a sign of wealth. Overly seductive clothes is not seen well by society, but is just a sign of bad taste and not forbidden by any law of the church. We dress the way we feel more comfortable with as long as it is with taste and within the moral standards of our society.…

When women wear certain clothing pieces, they are the accessories to the clothing. Schools and others should stop sexualizing women's bodies and placing rules on what to wear. The clothing isn’t the problem, it’s the sexualization of the clothing. “The dress code controversy operates within a larger cultural context--one which women are frequently sexualized and…

For my third religious visit, I decided to attend a Catholic Church, St. Mathews. I used to go to service with my friends when I was much younger, but never really had an understanding about it until my recent visit. Since It had been a while, I couldn’t remember what was appropriate attire for the service so I called the church before going to ask what I should wear. The lady on the phone said for women, they should wear something such as a nice dress, skirt or pants.…

Another reason for modesty clothing relates to personal and spiritual values. For instance, Christian women believe that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. As such, women believers wear clothes that reflect their inward and godly character. A guy commented that “we want girls to be women of God, not just lust magnets.” At the same time, the society is telling us that we…

Like all other matters, this issue has two sides, too. Modestly dressed women tend to be shielded from catcalls and wolf-whistles most of the time. They will still get this sexist treatment, but they get it in marginally diluted doses compared to women who are dressed sexily. That is a pure fact. Sometimes, modest dressing can save you from bad situations too. Convicted rapists admit that they only committed the crime because they couldn’t control themselves after seeing sexy women. It may see, a lame excuse for their wrong doing, but we cannot deny that women don’t exactly dress conservatively…

Appearance is very important. Your clothes should be suitable for the situation. For example, if you wear casual clothes in a meeting with your partners, they will think that you are not serious about working with them, or you don’t respect them. Besides, clothes can demonstrate your characteristic. People often like the one with neat clothes than a sloven one.…

    1. The reason why we made this assumption about our topic, which is the dress code policy in schools, is because as a student, there are many instances where I’ve heard teachers make demands and accusations like; “I can see your bra strap” and "find something to cover yourself with”, when confronting female students in regards on their outfit. And while, the dress code applies to all students, I have observed that it seems to mainly targets female students. Female students are restricted from wearing tank tops because it shows their shoulders and collarbone, and aren’t allowed to wear shorts because apparently female body parts are considered obscene by school officials. There are cases in this school, where girls have gotten into trouble for wearing shorts, while fellow male students who have worn shorts or…

In Western cultures, there is no differentiation between men and women as both are considered equal in today’s society. Though prior to this, women were considered lesser to men, it has not been so since the 1970s. Women also have the freedom to choose what they wish to wear; they are not limited to certain boundaries of dressing style. They are also free to wear revealing clothes, though not allowed to be fully nude in public.…

According to Angela Richard, “There are four basic reasons of wearing clothing: clothing for protection, clothing was worn for decoration, clothing was worn out of modesty and clothing was worn to denote status. Dressing the body comes from the decorations of the self, modesty, protection and status. It develops the important motivation for elaborate development of complex forms of clothing. “ Costume is a more distinctive form of clothing, including official or ceremonial attire such as ecclesiastical vestments, coronation robes, academic gowns, armor, and theatrical dress. The purpose of wearing a costume during ancient times was to emphasize social position by a great display of trophies, charms, and other valuables to enhance attractiveness.…

Crimes against women be it female infanticide, child marriage, pedophilia, sexual harassment, dowry deaths, physical abuse, etc follow them as a constant scare from cradle to grave. We might just believe that position of women in our country has improved, especially in bigger states, but that is nothing other than a myth. We might have progressed but what’s the point in boasting of our growth-story if it hasn’t taught us to respect the modesty of women?…
