It's Aye Thing Research Paper
It’s a Tuba Thing... aye! Growing up in Tuba City, Arizona, there is a lot of Navajo slang that is used when an individual is talking. Many outsiders may not understand the term or the context of it. It can be said two different ways either “aye” or “naye”, they both mean the same thing. This slang doesn’t exactly have a proper definition; in fact, Urban Dictionary defines it as just kidding (urbandictionary.com) The expression can be used in a variety of ways like, when teasing another individual or it can also be said out of habit. A person, perhaps a boy, could be teasing their sister and say something like, “hey, I seen your boyfriend yesterday.” Then, they would both say, “naye!” and start laughing about it because he would be teasing

On the day that was supposed to be both of their seventeenth birthdays, Giselle and her best friend, Tina, were sitting on the hill telling stories about Isabelle, watching the vibrant, colorful sunset. Every time the sunset Giselle would say, ¨good¨ and Isabelle would say, ¨bye¨ because they thought if they did that they would not be saying, ¨goodbye¨ to the hill and the sunset forever. Giselle thought she´d get some closure if her and Tina did the same thing, so Giselle said, ¨good¨, and Tina said, ¨bye.¨ Giselle said a ¨see you later¨ not only to the sunset but also to her sister at that…

Andrew Santella thinks that, “However, the Navajos devised a code that worked extremely well. They made a list of Navajo words that would represent each letter in the English language alphabet. For example, the Navajo word for apple (be-la-sana) stood for the letter A. The Navajo word for bear (shush) stood for the letter B, and the Navajo word for cat (moast) stood for the letter C. The code talkers sent messages by using Navajo code words to spell out words in English. For example, to say "Navy," code talkers would say the Navajo words that stood for each letter: Nesh-chee (or nut, for N), wol-la-chee (or ant, for A), a-keh-di-glini (or victor, for V), and tsah-as-zih (or yucca, for…

On May 2, 2012, the National Football League lost one of its elite players to suicide: Junior Seau. Seau played for the Chargers, Dolphins, and the Patriots during his professional football career and was a 12-time Pro Bowler before retiring in 2009. Three years after his retirement however, Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with a gun. This greatly shocked the football world and its image of Junior Seau as a person, but it soon realized the cause for his action. Shortly after Seau’s death, researchers examined Seau’s brain and found that it contained a disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy which is formed by repeated blows to the head; a very common disease among former football players (Football Brains). The Seau family then filed a lawsuit against the NFL claiming that the league held back information from the players about the danger of continuous blows to the head (Seau’s Death on Brain Injuries).…

Nearly half (47%) of all illegal border crossings into the U.S. occur along the Arizona border with Mexico. As the state with the most illegal crossings t the United States/Mexico border, its remote and dangerous deserts are the entry point for thousands of Mexicans and Central Americans(Cooper). The non-native citizen population has grown rapidly in this area. Arizona had an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in April 2010, a figure that had increased fivefold since 1990.(Cooper). Illegal immigration, like most other issues has an upside and a downside. On the upside, there is a steady workforce for the labor industry (agriculture, construction, etc.), and the service industry (restaurants). The agricultural industry in Arizona is comprised of 59% immigrants, the construction industry is made up of 27% workers not native to the United States, and the service industry is populated by 22% foreign born employees. On the downside, illegal immigration brings its share of problems including crime, poverty, uncirculated funds (pay not reintroduced into the economy in which it was originated), and an overburden on social services. It is the latter that sparked the now controversial Senate Bill 1070 that effectively closes the border to all but the few lucky enough to obtain legal status.…

When people tell me that I am “down to earth,” they are really not joking. This idiom is more than a complement to my personality; it is my reality. I am short. Standing at a mere five feet tall, I am the shortest person in my graduating class of 160 students. Although height is just a number, I have found that individuals tend to use height, among other things, to make judgements, defining others based upon a single characteristic. It is hard to be taken seriously by any of my family members when they still call me “teeny weeny Christeeny” at age seventeen. With that nickname, I am going to be sitting at the kiddy table long past my 18th birthday. It was difficult for me to be recognized as a respected camp counselor when most of the campers were the same height, if not taller…
