The Importance of Breakfast Consumption

Breakfast is the first meal of the day when one first wakes up; that is approximately 8 hours the body had no food intake – no carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals. For a human body to function properly it primarily needs glucose. When one skips breakfast the body runs low on glucose, causing the brain to not function at its full potential. This has many effects on the body including adverse effects on blood pressure, cholesterol and insulin, causing mental distress, lower cogitative performance affecting the memory, concentration and awareness. Breakfast consumption is a very important factor in nutrition and maintaining a good overall mental and physical health.
As mentioned above isolating breakfast can alter the body’s balance but if skipping breakfast is a regular routine it can have more severe consequences causing heart disease, diabetes or obesity. Why get a life-threatening disease when it can be easily prevented? There are many great things breakfast helps the body do. Breakfast provides the body with enough energy to lead an active lifestyle, which is another way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It helps produce enzymes needed to metabolize fats and it prevents the body from going into starvation mode. Research shows that even eating a breakfast that includes greasy bacon, pancakes with extra butter or even the famous nutella, composed with mainly sugar and saturated fat is better than no breakfast at all.
Examples on how this article can be applied to my life are that I am always very busy therefore I go to bed very late and I will do anything to sleep for another two minutes, I usually have three minutes maximum for breakfast which is equivalent to a fast healthy smoothie. If I am even later than usual I strictly follow the ‘bad breakfast is better than no breakfast” rule by grabbing a handful of granola bars. Breakfast is very important to me because my body is growing and needs all the nutrients it can get, how I eat now will affect how healthy my body will be in the future. In the future, I want my awareness on the importance of breakfast consumption to affect my children at an early age, so they too can make a habit of it like I did and can be prevented from diseases that can be easily prevented by doing one simple thing in the morning.
