Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). From the moment Hamilton reaches the board, an inexplicable connection sparks. Bethany said “I’ve tried to explain why I feel the way I do and it's impossible. Only surfers get it: the rush, the addiction, the way it stirs your heart, plays with your head, and tortures your body (Hamilton 119) .” Although at times there were downsides, being the youngest of three and the only girl had its benefits. Many died, some went mad with starvation. One day in winter, the hunters had no choice but to hunt. After several hours, they noticed that one spot of water had not frozen. The hunters made the decision to go fishing.…

The white water was breaking behind me and I was forced to move beyond it. I paddled as hard as I could, but progressed nowhere. "Why," I pondered to myself, "Why am I so weak?" I slowly pushed to the furthest sandbar, where the waves were less trifling. Surfers: the tan, salt induced bodies of them all were in harmony with nature's sea of sodium. Although there is a small chance of being attacked by sharks, the fear that “Jaws” created also increased the amount of deaths of sharks. People began to act upon their fear and hunt the sharks to insure to them their safety. “Jaws” created a fear to people by taking something that most were already nervous of and highlighting it, making it a real fear for them.…
