INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Fragrance compounds have been used since antiquity to freshen air and mask odors as for the ancient Egyptians, known to use masks to scent their tombs. And as time runs until 1948, the first modern air freshener was introduced, using technology developed by the military to disperse insecticides, was a pressurized spray containing about 1% perfume, 24% alcohol and 75% chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant. This compound chemicals capable of reducing a variety of unpleasant odors, and deliver fragrance is the product of AIR FRESHENER

Air Freshener reduces/removes several of unpleasant odors such as cigarette smoke, urine and fecal odors, cooking smells and odors typically associated w/ fish. In the early 1950’s many companies began to add odor-counter-octant chemicals to their formulas giving way for this air freshener to be known in the market. But almost all of those air freshener formulas contains a lot of chemicals especially aerosol air freshener because these type of freshener contains chlorofluorocarbon (CFC’s) with causes for the destruction of the ozone layers. And way also be harmful for children who will be exposing for these types of air freshener. The reasons identified lead to the researchers of studying and to improve air freshener. With the use of natural herbs and leaves for a more eco and child friendly and more natural scented air fresheners for homes.

B. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Air freshener, nowadays, has been widely used in every home to neutralize offensive odors and create a more pleasant scent. But on the other hand, many of the chemical ingredients found in air freshener have been investigated for their safety and found out to be toxic to humans and may increase the incidence of many different problems.
