Feature Article
It is stated in the paper “How to Write a Feature Article” that” Feature writing often centers around people and their interests rather than events, but many of the same writing conventions of news writing (particularly a concern for accuracy) are also required for feature writing” (How to Write a Feature Article). Feature article can be found similar to the news reports, because they tell a story about the occurring event. However, such articles are often much longer and they tell the audience more about the people, which were influenced by the event than about the event, which has happened. The feature articles show the reader the emotions, world views and the believes of people involved, instead of just showing basic facts and statistics. For my RIP Project I am writing a feature article about Russian …show more content…
New York Times often uses this technique as well by starting most of it’s opinion articles with a short relative anecdote to involve readers in the discussion from the very beginning. In the beginning my article I am trying to emotionally persuade y audience to become interested in my topic by sharing my concerns of being the only Russian student in my high school (Talonova). By using this personal anecdote I am trying to inform my audience of the cultural shock of the immigrants, when they realize that nobody around them can speak their native language nor know and understand the basic facts of their culture. Also, by starting a feature article with a personal anecdote I demonstrate my audience that I have a knowledge about the topic I am persuading them about, by being an immigrant myself. In my essay I also use anecdotes about other immigrants and use some quotations form them to show my readers the story from

In the Article of the week, by Ezra Klein she discusses things about the world that you might not have known & that surprises you. She talks about where most of the people in the world live , where in the world it’s the best to be born & who are the wealthiest people in the world & where they live. The author's uses anecdotes to begin the article. This is present in all of the articles that i have read. For example in the beginning of "Thrift Shop Hero", the author describes Ben Haggarty sitting in on an Alcoholics Anonymous of his fears of relapsing. The article on Rihanna begins with her walking into a comedy club in West Hollywood and describing her as having a great time. Also in the "Miami Burning" article it opens with Diddy's Breakfast Club Pool Party which was the opening party of the Ultra Music Festival. This technique allows for the author to effectively grab the reader's attention as well as make the reader feel as if they were present at these events.…

The article that I found is called “Black educators fired from private Manhattan preschools because of race: suit”. The article is about five African American women that filled a lawsuit against their employers because of race discrimination. These women worked as educators at a private Manhattan preschool and were fired between 2010 and 2013 after the private preschool brought in a new head administrator named Renee Bock. They claimed they worked in a hostile environment and that after getting fired they were substituted by white educators. They accused Renee Bock because before she got the new position all the five educators reports showed that they all have satisfactory work evaluations, had experience and were qualified for the job. Most of them had been working there for years and were fired for senseless reasons. They suited the private school for lost wages and benefits as well as compensation for emotional suffering.…

An anecdote is a short story included in writing that describes a real-life example of a certain situation. These stories can often be used to validify information, giving human-like examples to certain situations. In explaining a concept essay I discuss the various results of othello syndrome. To further explain what othello syndrome is, I used an anecdote to provide an example my reader would be able to understand. I use a news report by Steve Robson which states that in May 2013, “A man strangled his wife before hanging himself while suffering from 'Othello syndrome'. Robert Mercati, 63, had been receiving treatment for the medical condition, which caused him to be acutely jealous and believe his wife Margaret was having an affair. But in May, the couple were discovered dead at their flat in Bloomsbury, Central London....” The story goes on to discuss what have happened in greater detail. Besides just telling my audience the possible results of othello syndrome, using the anecdote provided a more clear understanding. This technique of writing is essential to connecting the reader to your writing; it makes the writing more relatable and easier to…
