Environmental Software Research Institute (ESRI) is the developers and distributors of the ArcGIS software suite. The software has a long standing history stretching back to the 1980’s. Today ESRI ArcGIS is a very large software suite that caters for desktop, server, mobile and cloud environments. It is one of the largest (not public) software companies in the world. Providing users with an array of tools and functionality that allows for the analysis, distribution and capturing of spatial information from various sources and using various methods.
Eskom has an enterprise licence with ESRI that is used by the whole of the Enterprise to spatial enable the business and add intelligence to location, ensuring that the geographic disparity and the impact of geography has on the business is not missed or ignored. This abundance of user to user communication opportunities is essential for learning about real-life GIS experiences, best practices, and tips.

I be exposed to international best practice fostering a innovation spirt that can benefit Eskom and the GIS fraternity in the larger business. A greater understanding of the technology will be gained ensure the optimal use of the investment made by Eskom into and Enterprise License Agreement (ELA). So doing ensuring current systems in leveraged to their maximum ensuring the long term sustainability and quality of output from GIS science and systems.
