Descriptive Essay: A Day In Nauvoo
The air is warm as I scurry out of my tent. I stand on the bank of the Mississippi River watching it as it swiftly moves along; glittering in its bed as the early morning sun hits it. You can smell the dew on the grass, the fishy smell of the river, and the wet, musty smell of the woods nearby. I look beyond the river and see Nauvoo, the city of Joseph, in all its glory sitting there with the Nauvoo Temple looking like a gem, facing me across the river. I warm up by the fire and make a s’more. I head off to the showers to get ready for a big day in Nauvoo.
We start out by driving by the temple. It’s big and white. We’re so close I can see the sunstone, moonstone, and the star windows. Next, we eat breakfast in a diner. By now, it is about

What’s better to chill out a hot summer’s day than something sweet and cool? No, I am not talking about a Popsicle. I am not talking about an ice cream cone, either. I am not even talking about iced tea or lemonade. It is something better than all of those, and it doesn’t even have all the sneaky calories of those other tasty treats! The answer to the question is simple. Have you guessed it? It is a cherry.…

The living room, or family room, is generally considered the main gathering area in most homes due to the television being located there. However, this is not the case in the more than one hundred year old, light grey, two story home in which I live. The main attraction of this particular living room is the comforting atmosphere and warm fires that take place in the wood-burning fireplace.…

In the Summer of last year, me and my sister traveled all the way out to Clayton, New Mexico, with our nina and her husband. We were traveling in a very shiny, large truck on roads far off from any store or even telephone poll. The air was so clean and full of the unknown flowers scents. It took almost a whole day to reach Clayton but the long journey was worth it because we saw so many cattle, horses, and even a great lake shining the sun’s bright, warm, and soothing light back, the lake looked like diamonds rolling against each other very smoothly and slowly. When me and my sister reached Clayton I could tell that it was a small community with local stores and a couple of big company stores such as Verizon and Sprint. The air here was…

The path was familiar, so despite the growing darkness, I could make my way through. I skipped over every rock, hopped over every puddle, and maneuvered my way through the low swinging branches of the great white oaks that lined the right side of the street. Living in a small town like Duren had its perks: there weren’t many people to hide your business from, you could walk out in the middle of the street at 2 AM without any concern, and the best part, you could look up and find a night sky filled with over a million stars. I looked up as I continued to walk straight ahead – the stars seemed to be brighter than usual that night. They danced in a melodic pattern across the black canvas and smiled upon those who wistfully sent up their wishes towards them. I was lost in a trance - the ethereal beauty of the sky had my full attention, as I wistfully longed to float away and become one with the…

I drove through the town and the cool drape of dusk gently pulled itself over a cloudless night sky, delicately revealing overborn and neglected stars. I meandered my way through the streets getting a feel for the place; and it felt just fine. The warm air smelt of eucalyptus, dirt and open fires.…

“Hey, we are in Tennessee”, my husband said as he lightly shook my shoulder until I acknowledged him with opening my grayish green eyes. “Good morning beautiful, only a half an hour away from the vacation you have always wanted us to take.” Instantly the widest smile you could ever imagine covered my face. I was so happy to be there rolling up an over these bright green hills into the mountains that harbor the cabin we would soon occupy. “I love you so much.” “I cannot even begin to explain how much this means to me Adam”. I said as we past the sign displaying a two mile away conformation that was truly needed do to the navigation becoming obsolete when we began winding thru the one lane roads. “Beautiful,” I said as we pulled up to the cabin.” ”Absolutely beautiful, even more so then I imagined”, said Adam as the slightest drops of rain began to fall from one of the few clouds that floated above. “I wonder what the weather is forecasted to be this week”. I asked as we walked hand in hand with my romantic husband into the two story cabin and on to making my dream come true.…

People are always looking forward to their vacation stage. There are numerous options that a person can choose to visit. I assume that the two majority common places people desire for taking a vacation are the beaches and the mountains. Both places offer a variety of amusing activities to do. The beach offers activities that the mountain cannot offer and vice versa. The mountain and the beach are totally different in some kind of way. As I stood, staring bleakly at the dilapidated house. Chills ran down my spine. I forgot my jacket, I thought to myself. The twojackets, three pairs of pants, 4 pairs of fuzzy socks, and boots could not keep me warm against the deathly cold. The walkway up to house were cracked. Weeds emerged out from these cracks. Briars were growing wildly in thick batches by the gate. The moonlight cast a scary glow on the house. Twisted vines ran up the side of house, reaching towards the roof. The house's walls were rotting because of neglect. Splotches of original paint gave me flash backs to how this house used to be, even though I've never been here before. Cobwebs covered the corners of the doors, tiny black spiders threading towards their prey. The house is fit for the Kings and Queens of the supernatural.…

My grandmother's house has a very special place in my heart. I lived with my grandmother for many years when I was little. Her house always seemed to have something about it that set it apart from all the rest. When walking in the front door of her house, there is a stairway as long as the Red River. It leads to the main hallway of the house. The strong smell of cigarette smoke would tickle my nose by the time I made it to the hallway.…

Photography is like any other art where the sky is the limit. The most important component to photography is the camera. I have a Nikon D3000 SLR digital camera. It is like one of my children. I go everywhere with it and when I don’t have I always feel like something is missing. It helps me bring my creative side to life and gives me just the shot I am looking for. It is heavy and sometimes a pain to carry but the weight is worth it for the end results. It has endless settings that I can adjust to achieve what it is I am trying to create. When I look through the view finder I look at a whole new world.…
