The Information Age has simultaneously ushered in feelings of excitement and trepidation for the teacher in the school classroom. While the computer is a symbol of powerful and limitless possibilities, teachers have the daunting task of figuring out how to use the computer successfully, how to utilize computers properly into a particular lesson at hand and how to plan around any presupposed computer glitches that may arise in front of the students. When those students are of preschool or elementary age, teachers must weigh other concerns when it comes to “Using Technology As A Teaching and Learning Tool” which happens to be the title of this informative article by Drs. Linda A. Tsantis, Cynthia J. Bewick and Suzanne Thouvenelle. The article, subtitled “Examining Some Common Myths About Computer Use in the Early Years”, addresses seven myths and misconceptions to assuage the fears teachers may harbor against technology use and encourage teachers to use computers effectively in order to enhance the learning experience for the child.…

The first solution is parents must partially abstain children from technology by limiting children’s screen time according to American Academy of Pediatrics. The reason is that children don’t need technology to learn just as how current icon don’t need technology to bring them to where they are now. Furthermore, even Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple does not fancy his children playing technology. In fact, when iPad first came out, he banned his children from using them. He has an orthodox functional family that have their dinner table talk. He leads by example to all the tech-savvy and ordinary people out there. The pros of this solution is that we can see the fruition of this solution as children without technology are still becoming the future leader. The con is that technology is evolving and it is unsure whether there is life without technology in the future. The solution will work for the time being before technology controls every aspect of our life.…

The use of technology has skyrocketed over the past few years, with a whopping ninetyfive percent of people utilizing the internet, constantly checking smartphones, and relying on other forms of media for entertainment, socializing, or work related instances. Compared with the digital satellites, MP3 players, and Palm Pilots of the 1990s, the technology today has truly advanced, causing many people to become dependent on media-related devices. More than fifty percent of today’s youth contribute to this dependency. What is not taken seriously enough is that this eagerness for technology is destroying the minds of young children by distracting them from important family values, causing various bullying issues, exposing them to violence, and inducing many health risks. Technology therefore should cease to exist in the lives of children, who should instead learn important life lessons from playing outside, utilizing talents, or spending time with the family. It is very important for a child to spend quality time with his or her family. Parents, grandparents, siblings, or extended family members help children develop positive self-esteem by communicating values, encouragement, and love. Today, children’s sense of those relationships is altered due to the fact that they are becoming less and less interested in family and instead more and more intrigued with media. The average kid ages eight to eighteen spends over seven and a half hours a day using technology, equaling seventy-five hours a week (Negative Effects Of). With all of that attention going to technology, children develop a loss of family interest. To any society, new technologies can greatly improve the standard of people’s lives. In human’s long history we have learned that two important technologies, the printing press and the steam engine, resulted in life changing advances in the seventeenth century. With no doubt, advancement in technology improved people’s lives. In the past century, due to using new technologies, such as automobiles, airplanes, TVs, cell-phones, as well as computers, the standard of humans’ lives have been greatly improved in many different fields, which eventually led to globalization. Today, with the popularity of using the Internet through computers, computers and the Internet are becoming the two most important technologies in our everyday lives. We use computers for study, work, communication, business and many other things. In the United States, there are estimated 165 million Internet users with 25 millions of those users being age 12-17 (Reimer). The average teen chooses to spend an average of 16.7 hours a week reading and writing online (Goldwasser 39). Due to these surprising statistics, some people condemn that so many people are spending too much time on computers and this has brought about negative impacts on their lives, especially on young people. I think that computers are the necessary tool for young people because they have to rely on them to learn new knowledge, to practice living skills, and to use for their employment. Computers undoubtedly provide visible advantages and benefits for young people in education.…
