Brittany: The use of the intervention of a thought journal also allows for a concrete and measurable way to ensure Mary’s negative thoughts are becoming less frequent and progress is being made. This chapter starts up in the hospital. Esther is having a very hard time in the hospital since her suicide attempt. With the stories she describes, it is very apparent that people are looking at her as if she is a freak. Esther looked at herself in the mirror in the hospital and could not believe the face staring back at her. Her face was bruised and her hair was gone. I think at that moment it was more than just looking at herself. She realized all the bruises and the haircut, but she also realized how everything has affected her. Her face was representing her feelings and emotional state as well, bruised and beat up. Since she was so shocked by her appearance, she dropped the mirror. When Esther dropped the mirror the nurses became upset…
In reference to Case Study number one, I was able to match the issues with Josephine to Schizoid personality disorder. Schizoid personality disorder is explained by theorists as an unsatisfied need for human contact (Corner, 2005). In other words, the parents may have not accepted them and they possibly were abusive (Corner, 2005). So as a result they cope by avoiding all relationships as is the case for Josephine. In addition, Cognitive theorists propose that people with this disorder suffer from deficiencies in their ability to think and perceive environments. Treatments include the help from both cognitive and behavioral therapists (Corner, 2005). A cognitive therapy, such as presenting lists of emotions to think about, sometimes helps. In addition, behavioral therapists use techniques such as role playing to help improve social skills. Group therapy is also useful and offers a safe way for social communication (Corner, 2005).…
Individuals, need encouragement and support from loves ones to guide one through life. This is seen in the lack of support and encouragement displayed when Esther's mother fails to support and encourage Esther with her aspirations. No matter what Esther had wanted to do with her life, her Mother had always wanted her to learn the skills of shorthand because she would always have that skill in her life and also that was the one thing her Mother had experienced in life. As a result, her Mother failed to enhance Esther with her aspirations that she wanted from…

Since I remember there were some things which haven’t changed, since I was in kindergarten until I became a high school senior , and there are things what actually changed a lot. The changers are really good, because they show my personal improvement. In my existence I definitely experienced more changes than continuity, and some of them are moving from Poland to America, my point of view on the world, and my interests, however there are still things that stayed the same like for example the fact that I ski basically since I was in kindergarten, and I also always knew how to fight for the my dreams in my life.…
My client currently receives cognitive behavioral therapy, however, how we can we assist her to change the way that she thinks, when her each day of her life is filled with a negative encounter? Cognitive behavioral therapy alone is not enough, this client and other clients like her need for trauma sensitive information, and family issues to be addressed. If the family does not know how to express themselves, or have never grieved or coped with recent losses or instances, then TF-CBT would be able to assist with building and utilizing appropriate coping skills, and with learning about how to grieve appropriately. This type of therapy aims to teach the children and families how to deal with their problems appropriately and to get them to accept…

The approach is integrative, and combines various aspects of counselling approaches, psychodynamic, humanistic and behaviourist. It looks at the cognitive effect of human experience. The theory that makes it the most appropriate for the client in the case study would be person-centered. Person centered therapy teaches the client to trust on themselves so they can trust to find the right direction to life. According to Rogers he “viewed the quality of the relationship between therapist and client as the core element in client-centered therapy.” Therefore, person-centered will help Ana because she is…
