Have you ever wanted to do science and get money for it? That’s what happens when you become a chemist. If you are a chemist, you teach technicians how to do procedures. You carry out complex research projects, write technical reports and detailed messages and findings. You present research findings to engineers and other colleagues. They prepare solutions, compounds, and reagents used in laboratories. Because chemistry is hard, not many people do it.
There are many requirements in order to be a chemist. To be a chemist, you need a bachelor’s degree in any type of chemistry (organic, analytical, etc.). To be a higher-level chemist, you need either a master’s degree or a Ph.D. The salary for this job is $72,000 per year. “Chemists and materials scientists study substances at the atomic and molecular levels and the ways in which the substances interact with one another”(bls.gov).
