Deciding what someone is going to spend the rest of their lives doing can be hard, but for some it has always been clear. Forensic Anthropology is an interesting career for me because of the excitement of working at crime scenes, the mystery behind each bone, and the knowledge that justice has been given to the victim. This topic is valuable because knowing what, where, who I will be working with in the future is necessary so that I don’t regret deciding to become a forensic anthropologist.

A trained forensic anthropologist can identify gender, ethnicity, age, illness, and possible careers, just by looking and touching bones (PBS, 1). They record data, put bones together, and determine possible cause of death. Forensic Anthropologists also have to spend hours in a lab, with little breaks, to make sure that their calculations are correct and precise. “The experts take notes and photographs to arrange and preserve the arrangement of the body” (PBS, 1). They organize the victim’s bones in its original shape so that studying them will be easier, this is usually a long process depending on the condition of the victim’s bones. If the condition is overall good the time to organize the bones unlike when the conditions is unrecognizable. Forensic Anthropologists take a heavy selection of science courses including: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Physiology. So that they will be prepared when they have to determine the death cause of a victim. Another good class to take is a Law and Order class, this class will be beneficial because forensics deal with the law in plenty of cases. When forensic gather enough information they identify the victim and show it to the authorities so that the FBI can see if the victim had conflict with family members, and if they had a dispute with someone that might’ve wanted to kill
If they get called to participate in a court case they must prepare and take time to go over the reports, calculations and death cause. Forensics can be selected to speak the case of the victim that they have been studying. They speak about the wounds of the victim and testify for them (Nevets QST, 1). They help judges and authorities determine if the suspicious person is guilty or not. This helps not put innocent people in jail, and rightful justice be made. The forensic anthropologist, after years of studies, determination and hard work get paid well. This is everyone’s favorite part: How much do they make? Well, it depends where you live and where you choose to study. Assuming you have a Ph.D. the median salary will be at around $58,150 a year. If you work for the government and other important areas you might get paid at 132,000 dollars a year. Universities also play a major role in this, if you attended a well-known university the odds of being paid highly are very likely.
