Bad Role Models: Fake, The New Real
Fake, The New Real

Hollywood shows good and bad role models these days. These role models range in age from twelve to seventy years old. Some of these role models display the bad, the terrible, the worse than terrible, the things that get into girls heads these days and show them what Hollywood likes, not what the human race likes. As a single mother of four children, it is my responsibility to be a positive role model for them. One of my roles is instilling how vital a college education is towards their future, which was problematic since I lacked one myself. Therefore, because children learn through example, making the decision to acquire a college degree was a necessary choice. The challenge began when it was time to decide what field of study to target, what type of school to attend, and where I envisioned myself in the future.…

If one glances at a magazine or turns on the TV, you got a good idea of what media’s definition of an attractive woman looks like: she’s tall, has long, flowing hair, is surgically and digitally enhanced, blemish-free, and very thin. In fact, academic research tells it like we see it: studies show the women we see in media these days are much thinner than the real world, and very often thin enough to be considered anorexic by world health standards. In a world where a constant flow of media images far exceeds the number of people we could ever see face to face, this abnormally thin and digitally enhanced ideal has become the norm. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld highlights the controversial topic of…

Question 1 To contribute to a lesson of seven year old children learning to play percussion instruments, a teacher’s assistant would support and help the teacher and children by creating an environment that is positive and organised which would promote learning and minimise bad behaviour that could create an unsettled atmosphere and in turn disrupt the lesson. For this to be achieved the TA would contribute by preparing the classroom for the particular activity, creating the space required thus giving the Teacher more time to concentrate on preparing for the lesson. TA would also contribute by:   Acting as role model for the children to promote good behaviour Familiarise their self with the equipment by way of knowing the name of each instrument and how they are used/played, so they could help and answer any questions the children may have during the lesson. Helping them to use/learn the instruments in accordance with the manufactures and Teachers instructions Encourage them to listen to the teacher. Observation of the children and help them to achieve their individual goal.…

From the dieting tricks that promise to shave off weight within weeks, to the constant gossiping of the fashion trends of a femme fatale, the message is clear: the appearances of women matter. Especially prevalent for the past few decades, the pressure for young women to meet a certain physical standard has been growing ever since. Through the influence of the media and the scrutiny of others, women face the stress of carefully choosing each change they add to their appearance, going so far as to permanently change their genetic features in order to conform to what society has defined as beautiful, and such an issue calls for change.…

Every girl has seen a woman in the media stick thin, sun kissed, envy of the way she looks “perfect”. Women that are put on television, a magazine or advertisements is ultimately fake with Photoshop, makeup and plastic surgery. This is a dangerous perception of beauty which has resulted in a decline in self-acceptance. Many girls any age struggle with their image believing that they are not thin enough, their hair is not long enough, or even they believe that they are ugly. In thinking about writing a paper on a good role model, I asked my 12 year old son who he saw as a role model. He told me “Clay Matthews III, linebacker for the Green Bay Packers.” (Jovanni, 2012) So, I have chosen to write about this man. To see if holds and teaches the values that I also believe in. Maybe it is an actress, superhero, family, teacher, or just a stranger who did something that changes your thoughts and decisions about life. My leadership role right now makes a difference, because I’m seen as a positive role model. I’m a program instructor and positive role model to dozens of kids enrolled in the Big Buddy Program. Most people believe that I’m just a babysitter, but I disagree, because I love every child that steps through that door and I do my best to let every child know that they’re loved and that I’ll always be here for them good or bad. As a role model I create a relationship with every child especially the ones in my class, because I want them to know that if something is wrong they can come to me. I truly stand by the saying no child left behind, because I feel that they won’t have the same opportunities as other children if they’re left behind. Whether it’s a game, homework, or even carpool, when I say carpool that means I wait till every last child is gone before I leave, because I truly care about those children and I want them to know that. One coworker asked me why do I still stay even though I’m not getting paid for it? I replied by saying It’s not about the money it’s apart of my job and I love the children as if they’re my own to leave them there even though there's 1 or 2 staff members left.…
