Unit 10 Writing Assignment Academic Strategies for the Business Professional was an ideal course to begin my first term taking online courses with Kaplan University. It has been six years since I attended college therefore my skills and strategies as a student were raw and out of practice. Each unit of this course helped to revive my abilities as a student. I was able to reawaken my skills with time management, note taking, and critical thinking. Furthermore I also reacquainted myself with my personal learning style and multiple intelligences. Even though I was able to recall ingrained proficiencies from my previous days

One of the first and I feel one of the most important to possess was efficient time management and stress management skills. Effective time management skills can aid in helping to keep stress levels low and performance, work quality, and a positive attitude prominent. Critical thinking skills was another important topic I touched upon. Critical thinking is the ability to use logic and reason to evaluate information effectively. This is a vital ability as it aids with important decision making, goal-setting and problem solving. Lastly I studied a number of problem solving strategies to use in the business world. Effective problem solving can be used as both proactive and reactive resource for business operations. Being well-equipped with resourceful and professional problem solving strategies will prove to help me become a valuable asset to the business community I serve. For myself, I feel all of these concepts have helped to enrich my abilities and prepare me to become a qualified and confident candidate for the business …show more content…
My short-term educational goal is to complete my associate’s degree in accounting and subsequently my long-term educational goal is to complete my bachelor’s degree in accounting. In order for me to be successful in both of these goals, I will need to execute well-organized time and stress management, superb critical thinking, enhanced reading, note taking and writing skills. This will also require a great deal of personal responsibility, self-motivation, self-management and curiosity. For my short-term career goal, I am looking to advance at my current employment to their accounting department. Successively, my long-term career goal is to be in a management position of the accounting department. While similar qualities and abilities from my educational goals will directly apply to my career goals, I will also need to enlist my career networking, problem solving and action planning skills. I will also need to use my interdependence quality in order to be productive with my career networking and to be a positive, creative and constructive leader for the accounting department. I have been currently able to apply all of these skills and qualities to my present career position. I feel with continued application, practice and focus, I will

Addressing the funding of nonprofits in today’s environment requires creativity. Government funding cuts play a major role in a non-profits currently surviving on a safety net established with the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Senior Homes). Nonprofits also often receive state funds; with the recent economic downturn the groups receiving state support are receiving less funding and the money sent is often in the rears. As state and federal budget cuts loom, resources for nonprofits must rely on the private sector for funding and support. From 1999 to 2009 there was a 31% increase in nonprofit organizations according to the latest data (Charitable Statistics). With this increase in nonprofit organizations, there is a more competitive market for the allotted monies from both public and private resources which cause straining in the market. Organizations must think outside the box to pursue fundraising and awareness to their cause and campaign to differentiate themselves from those with similar missions in such a competitive market. Streamlining data and administrative processes are underway with many nonprofits. Not possessing the funding to develop a digital presence can also cause funding to move slowly since online marketing is a way to raise awareness and attention to potential funding sources.…

With a faster pace of everyday life, employability skills are becoming essential in modern society. The employability essential concepts and skill sets represent universal content. They contribute to outcomes that are valued for individuals and for society; bring benefits in a wide variety of contexts and apply to multiple areas of life; and are of use to all individuals, deemphasizing competencies of use only in a specific trade, occupation or walk of life. In this report, we look deeply into six critical employability skills including communicating skills, management skills, problem solving skills, personal knowledge, work experience and teamwork skills. Each of these skills was studied and analysed to show its importance. All of these employability skills are held to make a focus on an individual 's ability to gain initial employment, maintain employment, move between roles within the same organisation, obtain new employment if required and ideally secure suitable and sufficiently fulfilling work, in other words- their employability, more important than the simple state of being employed. I have realized that there is not just one key concept that works for me. In fact I am sure that is a combination of all of them that will make me a better candidate for the business world. The two that I will use the most will have to be Unit 2, Manage your Time and Stress, and Unit 7, Goals and Planning. By learning how to manage my time and stress better will allow me to become a better part of the business community. In this manner by reducing my stress will allow me to better focus on the important aspects that need my attention. Learning how to manage my time came from the help of my family by allowing me to have time to myself to focus on my studies every day. Another great help has been the proper use my daily planner. It has been a great contribution to my success in this class. I will be using my planner for all my classes and I am also using it for work. This is a great course for me because it is the first class I have taken since graduating high school 15 years ago. The things that I learned in Unit 6, Academic Writing, will be great use for my next class which is Writing Composition. I will be taking what I have learned from this course and apply it to my next, and so on and so on. From Unit 7 came setting forth my short term and long term goals. I learned how to use the S.M.A.R.T. goal planning technique. I learned that using a series of short term goals helps me to achieve my long term goal. This works for me because if I can see progress and it is easier for me to stay on track and achieve the long term goal. So many times I have set myself a goal and never accomplished it because I could not see the progress and lost interest. There were a lot of other units that will come in use during the rest of my tenure here at Kaplan University, everything from critical thinking and research to scheduling and conducting an interview. I loved the exercises that…
