ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The success of this project cannot be done alone and thus required the help of various individuals. Without them, we might not meet our objectives in the process of doing the said project. And therefore we would like to give our deepest gratitude to the following for their help and support:

To our parents, for giving encouragement, understanding and for the financial and emotional support in pursuit of this project;
To our professor, Engr. Ralph Gerard B. Sangalang, for the opportunity that he gave us to explore and used all the things that we have learned;

To our classmates and seniors who support, help and encourage us;

And lastly, to our Almighty God, for giving us the wisdom, strength, support and knowledge in exploring things; for providing guidance which helps us surpass all the trials that we encountered and for giving determination to pursue this project.

    Audio compressors that use a light source to control a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) are not new, and indeed there are many classic optical compressor designs. The design goal of the SOC-1.1 was to further enhance the attributes of optical compression to provide the user with alot more functionality as well as improve the compressor response to real world audio signals. We have carefully examined the characteristics of the LDR and developed a truly unique process to control it. This process we call the Differential Drive Side Chain topology (DDSC).…

    Class A amplifiers amplify over the whole of the input cycle such that the output signal is an exact scaled-up replica of the input with no clipping. Class A amplifiers are the usual means of implementing small-signal amplifiers. They are not very efficient — a theoretical maximum of 50% is obtainable, but for small signals, this waste of power is still extremely small, and can be easily tolerated. Only when we need to create output powers with appreciable levels of voltage and current does Class A become problematic. In a Class A circuit, the amplifying element is biased such that the device is always conducting to some extent, and is operated over the most linear portion of its characteristic curve (known as its transfer characteristic or transconductance curve). Because the device is always conducting, even if there is no input at all, power is wasted. This is the reason for its inefficiency…
