Combined cycle power generation units reknown for their higher energy conversion efficiency and reduced pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. Combined Cycle power plants are those which have both gas and steam turbines supplying power to the network. Combined cycle power plants employ more than one thermodynamic cycle – Rankine (steam) and Brayton (gas). In a combined cycle power plant, a gas turbine generator generates electricity and the waste heat is used to make steam to generate additional electricity through a steam turbine, which enhances the efficiency of electricity generation. Additionally, combined cycles are characterized by flexibility, quick part-load starting, suitability for both base-load and cyclic operation, and a high efficiency over a wide range of loads. Various types of transformers are being used in combined cycle power plants to facilitate step up and step down the voltages for various operations to be performed.Generated voltage has to be stepped up to reduce power loss and then this is being fed to power grid through switch yard.Different types of instrumentation is being used for safer operation of transformer efficiency,maintain rated values as specified by the manufacturer such as radiators,silica gel breather,conservators,pressure relief valve,magnetic oil level guage,buchholz relay ,winding temperature indicator etc. Introduction:
