Terminology * Omit the word ‘don’t’ and say the word ‘keep’ * Cue the solution not the problems * Cue spinal alignment- give positive cues * Use the word modification in fitness * Use the words progression to signify an increase in intensity and difficulty and regression to decrease the intensity * Use the number system to label the move not the person
Cueing- five p’s * Purpose- why are we going to do this exercise * Position- the position to set up * Progression/ or regression- what is the exact movement that you’re doing * Prana- remind people when to breath at this point in the movement sequence * Personal/ personality- interject your personality.
The way I cue * Cue in the 3rd dimention- verbal, visual, and kinesthetic * Verbal cues- think like your cuing a blind person. Don’t make verbal cues non-specific * Visual cuing- point to things, cue with your fingers numerically, and direction * Kinesthetic- you use the word feel with the kinesthetic learner. You put your hand where you want the person should be and you let them touch you.
EEC- Exercise Evaluation Criteria * Evaluates benefits over risks of exercise and equipment 1. What is the functional objective in terms of ADL (activity of daily life) 2. What are the joint actions involved 3. Stability first and mobility second- are you safe before you even begin the movement 4. Participant- what level are they and what are their goals, progressions and regressions 5. How to think about movement in general
