OBAMA SPEECH
What is the stated purpose of the speech?
Remembrance,

Outline
We (America) will provide
Whatever portion of sadness that we can share with you to ease this heavy load, we will gladly bear it. Newtown -- you are not alone.
That this job of keeping our children safe, and teaching them well, is something we can only do together, with the help of friends and neighbors, the help of a community, and the help of a nation.
Heros
Bravery of teachers you’ve also inspired us with stories of strength and resolve and sacrifice. We know that when danger arrived in the halls of Sandy Hook Elementary, the school’s staff did not flinch, they did not hesitate. Dawn Hochsprung and Mary Sherlach, Vicki Soto, Lauren Rousseau, Rachel Davino and Anne Marie Murphy -- they responded as we all hope we might respond in such terrifying circumstances -- with courage and with love, giving their lives to protect the children in their care. kept steady through it all, and reassured their students by saying “wait for the good guys, they’re coming”; “show me your smile.”
Bravery of students
And then there were the scenes of the schoolchildren, helping one another, holding each other, dutifully following instructions in the way that young children sometimes do; one child even trying to encourage a grown-up by saying, “I know karate. So it’s okay. I’ll lead the way out.”
In the face of indescribable violence, in the face of unconscionable evil, you’ve looked out for each other, and you’ve cared for one another, and you’ve loved one another.

Change needs to be made to prevent tragedies like Newtown and all the others from occurring.
I’ve been reflecting on this the last few days, and if we’re honest with ourselves, the answer is no. We’re not doing enough. And we will have to change.
We can’t tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change. We will be told that the causes of such violence are complex, and that is true. No single law

Four months ago in the small town of Newtown, Conn. twenty first graders and seven adults were shot dead by a mentally challenged teenager who committed suicide right after. Earlier that day, he also killed his mother. A NRA member, who for some reason had military weapons at her house. The town lost some of their children, but America as a whole grieved. Not too long after, people started pointing fingers. Who’s to blame? The NRA? The mentally challenged? The school system , who did not have an armed police officer onsite? The mother who had guns at home? Video games? The government for not having strict gun laws? It’s a delicate situation and it is very hard to hold someone responsible. But one thing is for sure; when the worst things happen, in order to comprehend the facts, people always need someone to blame.…

The Sandy Hook Massacre is the second deadliest shooting by a single person in American history. According to CNN, this tragic attack took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. The shooter, Adam Lanza, brought three guns into the school, two of which were pistols, and one of which was an assault rifle. To get into the building, which had an updated security system, he shot his own way into the building with his assault weapon. Lanza ended up murdering twenty-six people. Twenty of the twenty-six were six and seven year olds. As the first authorities approached him, Adam Lanza shot himself in the head, committing suicide (CNN 1-2).…

A good leader is someone who constantly is honest with the people who he or she is surrounded by. A leader who is educated is able to evaluate other people's skills to have the ability to achieve their ideal goals. As many of us know, Barack Obama was the first African American United States President in the United States' history. I remember it was 2010 when Obama established a healthcare system called Obamacare. Obama is considered a good leader by continuously being plausible and an attentive person for almost eight years. Not only is he an attentive worker, but Barack also does other things to help our nation, such as visiting other countries around the globe. Obama uses humor in his speeches…

As a class, we have endured changes throughout the years from being split up in the classroom ( Port Allen on one side and Erwinville on the other) as if we were on the bus with Rosa Parks to being untied, from having a teacher and coming back from Christmas break wondering who was going teach us geometry, a change in administration, down to dances from the dougie to “jiggin” and now to dabbin. Through it all I am glad to say we made it; we survived ebola, Oscar Proud, the Predator, Maleficent. Ms. Morgan’s test, Ms. Roger’ solid advice, and the King of Shade worksheets Mr. Seal’s himself. Also for some of you relationship after relationship. All of these good…

We all have a community to call on when we’ve hit stumbling blocks in our professional growth or when we want someone to share in our achievements. When we all face our next big change, or challenge, let us remember to embrace it, too, because we do not have to face it alone. Let us also remember the teamwork and collaboration that this program has fostered in all of us because it is one of the most important skills we can take with it to build a better world for those we seek to help whether in a public, school, or academic library, an information center, a government agency, or in a position that has not been created yet.…

The debate over Gun control has taken front and center in recent news head-lines. The communities and families whose lives have been effected by gun violence are speaking out. In an article titled “Newtown Open eyes to other gun violence against young people” Sarah Hoye explores how every day gun violence effects inner cities like Philadelphia on a daily basis. “Scott Charles walks briskly across a hospital lobby toward a group of high school students waiting to meet him. "Welcome," he said, panning their faces, "I work with gunshot patients. How many of you know somebody who's been shot?" Hands spring up into…

Over the last year, I have been concerned over the events that have been shaking the foundation of this country, young kids going on a rampant killing spree and some even taking their own life. Violence has taken over our schools, our streets and the government does not seem to get a grip of control over the situation, promises in political campaigns, and after elections, we do not see a difference. In 2012, this country ended a difficult year with the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre, where 26 innocent lives were lost as a result of a maniac armed with his mother’s gun.…

As I was writing this speech, the past 4 years I had in this school flashed back. The shouts of joy when we were happy or when we have overcome a certain problem, the tears we shed when we were sad or angry or frustrated; success and failures, triumphs and mistakes, these things molded us to become who we are today. It seems yesterday when we were just a bunch of confused freshmen. We wandered into the four walls of this civic center, anxious and intimidated, but time went by so fast and before we knew it, we eventually come to a halt from all our childish acts and began to spread and widen our horizons. We have changed and matured. We were told to grow up, and we did. We were told to make sure we graduate, and we’re here today. Our friends and families, our teachers and benefactors, we already understand the importance of living in this “merry-go-round battle” and finally become one with it.…
