Our World Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
I am fighting for my future. Losing my future is not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market. I am here to write on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard, the countless animals dying across this planet because they have nowhere left to go. I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don't know what chemicals are in it. And now we hear about animals and plants going extinct every day- vanishing forever.
In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.
All this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions. I'm only a child and I don't have all the solutions, but I want you to realize, neither do you! You don't know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer, you don't know how to bring back an animal now extinct, and you can't bring back forests that once grew where there is now desert.
I'm only a child yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal. In my anger, I am not blind, and in my fear, I am not afraid to tell the world how I feel.
I'm only a child yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on ending poverty and finding environmental answers, what a wonderful place this earth would be!
At school, even in kindergarten, you teach us to behave in the world. You teach us:
* not to fight with others,
* to work things out,
* to respect others,
* to clean up our mess,
* not to hurt other creatures
* to share - not be greedy.
Then why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do?
Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying "everything's going to be alright", "we're doing the best we can" and "it's not the end of the world". But I don't think you can say that to

Again, that one doesn’t work. “They understand the size of the problem, but they haven’t yet figure out the timing” (McKibben, We are running out of time. These plans make more sense if we had started twenty years ago. But now “ the waves are already breaking over the levee; the methane is already seeping out of the permafrost; the oil wells are already coming up dry” (McKibben, ). We are right in front of the line. Those solutions sound feasible, but they are not fast enough to preserve our planet from…

    Do you think nature is boring and obtuse? Well, author of award winning book Last Child In The Woods, Richard Louv begs to differ. This generation is not going outside enough to enjoy the true beauty of nature. People need to stop stop complaining about how stressed out they are and just go outside. This generation is not completely to blame, everything today occurs indoors, parents would rather just give their a child an iPad, and there is deforestation going on everyday. All of these factors are affecting the world.…

    How can we justify the elimination of glaciers and sea ice which have been with us for thousands of years which are now disappearing in a matter of decades? Its an insult to our planet, ourselves as a human race and only shows how selfish, careless and egotistical we have become. I am a big advocate of new technology, especially Elon Musk’s latest creations which push the advent of energy usage. What’s sad however, is that much of our current technology is not doing any good to the environment. What I find puzzling is this, there is an ongoing crisis, humans understand that crisis, humans have a need, humans make a technology that temporarily relives their crisis, that technology then has a negative impact on the planet. Its this on going cycle of “temporary relief, or fixing” that hurts the planet. If we understand the damage we are creating and causing why must we keep doing it? There are plenty of laws out there to stop someone from stealing but how many laws out there stop you or a corporation from polluting or using fossil fuels instead of pushing for new ways of generating energy. That’s what needs to change, its evident even here in Ohio, where winter all of the sudden is in the…

    “People tend to focus on the here and now. The problem is that, once global warming is something that most people can feel in the course of their daily lives, it will be too late to prevent much larger, potentially catastrophic changes,” Elizabeth Kolbert. For decades our world has been changing slowly, and we have felt the wrath of global warming. Recent hurricanes such as Ike, Wilma, Katrina, Rita, and now Sandy have caused many casualties, billions of dollars in damage and chaos to environments around the world. The effects of these storms are only getting greater with time. We can’t simply adapt to it, and the costs are incalculable. What we are facing is huge, global warming is real, and it is here! It’s time we start focusing on using clean energy exclusively, because the better option is out there.…

    As a teacher we are more than likely able to empathise with children who are experiencing bereavement as this is probably something we, as adults, have experience. Consequently, it could be difficult to separate our own feelings and thoughts from the situation we are dealing with in order to console a child and reassure them that things will get better.…

    I believe that every child has a unique character in the diversity of learning towards growth and development. And I am certain that as a would-be teacher, there’s so much reward which I can derive from being able to impart knowledge to the growing child and share the attitudes that will govern him/her through life and I should pattern this to my teaching strategies. It is my aspiration to help children meet their fullest potential in developing their physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life providing them a safe environment, productive stimulating atmosphere, and ideal interactions. My way of instruction must be suitable to the learning styles of my students.…
