II. Introduction
In the U.K., Tesco is considered to be the biggest private sector. Its stores ranging from Tesco express which gives convenience and value to customers, to Tesco extras that provide a wide range of food and non-food items. Tesco has branches all over the world including in China, Japan and Turkey. But, 86% of its sales come from the U.K. This worldwide expansion of Tesco is part of its strategy to gain more customers all over the world and to diversify to the different kinds of culture. As the slogan of Tesco on its website, http://www.tescoplc.com/, says “Our success depends on people: the people who work with us and the people who shop with us.” This indicates the huge importance that Tesco gives to its employees. Tesco used workforce planning, job description, person specification, internal and external methods in its recruitment and selection process. It also used the interview method and assessment centres in the selection process. In this case study, I will analyse and look into further detail why Tesco is considered to be the biggest employer, what the different techniques it used to in recruitment and selection, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of using these techniques. Define the terms recruitment and selection. How do these processes enable on organisation like Tesco to get the right people fill its posts? Recruitment is the process of finding the best-qualified applicants to fill the open positions in an organisation. There are three methods of recruitment. First is the internal method, which includes job posting, promoting and transfer, union through assigning, retired employees and dependents of deceased and employee referrals.
