Job Satisfaction Definition

Confucius said: “Choose a job you love and you will never had to work a day in your life.” In fact, this quote is a synthesis for job satisfaction. Job satisfaction refers to positive feelings, hopes, and expectations from employees’ toward their work. Job Satisfaction Analysis

Job satisfaction promotes partnership between managers and employees. In particular, employees become more effective, productive, and efficient while contribute to the company mission. Consequently, employees with higher sense of job satisfaction are more committed with their duties and with the organization. Moreover, employees believe they can contribute to the success of the organization which reflects their loyalty. Increasing employees’ commitments as well as maintaining positive employees’ morale are equally important to enhance job satisfaction. Under those circumstances, organizations foster a pleasant workplace for a better workforce. Happier employees not only show significant improvement on performance but also higher productivity resulting in better outcomes. Low morale undermines productivity which leads to increase turnover. As a consequence, low morale and dissatisfaction impact productivity. Employees with negative attitudes and low-self esteem are unhappy not only at work but also in their personal lives. Recent studies speculate over a direct relation between job and life satisfaction. According to the case study, Barbara Norris, the nurse manager at a large surgical unit used a job satisfaction survey to investigate employees’ feedback anonymously. She wants to get answers but found a frustrated and de-motivated staff with discrimination issues, lack of collaboration, and internal conflicts. The staff responses help her to encourage the hospital administration to look after possible solutions. High turnover rates, such as this case, as well as absenteeism are other indicators of low morale and job dissatisfaction. These indicators are red flags for problem detection hence employees would prefer to move to other companies for better benefits, salary, and working conditions. Management Styles

Today, managers exhibit more liberal administrative styles than never. Some employees need independence while others need guidance; some need feedback while others need recognition. Managers can promote a positive work experience and improve job satisfaction by performing many activities. Employees’ morale can be reinforced through periodic job satisfaction and morale surveys. This set of questions is designed to provide information about job satisfaction and employees morale. These surveys are anonymous so opinions flow freely. Examples of job satisfaction survey questions as an illustration What the company expects from employees?

Do employees have all materials to performed the work right? Do employees have opportunities to learn and grow?
Do supervisors care about employees?
Does the employer encourage development?
Do employees’ opinions count?
Does the mission of the company inspire employees?
Do employees are committed with quality?
Do employees have recognition?
According to the job satisfaction review experience, managers and employees contrast in priorities. While managers are more focus towards performance, training opportunities, safety, communication, organizational culture, and the mission of the company, employees are more focus on job security, quality of supervisors, health benefits, and competitive salaries. This type of review serves as a unique opportunity to provide positive feedback to employees and discuss areas of opportunity. There are multiple strategies and activities that managers and supervisors can perform to increased job satisfaction and foster a pleasant workforce. For example, they might provide training opportunities; observe performance, measure turnover, as well as absenteeism rates. Training opportunities are needed for both, supervisors and employees....
