How positioning can inhibit an improve communication
Position can create a barrier on recieveing an interpreting messages which inhibit communication. If we cannot see eachother then it will inhibit communication. In a care setting it is important to keep our eyes at the same level as the person that we are communicating with. But it is important to consider positioning while working with different people having different difficulties. For example in an early year setting children look at our facial expression and listen to our tone of voice to understand us and elderly care setting, people having hearing difficulties can read our lips to understand us. Seating patterns send different messages. While having a group communication its important to have appropriate positioning as it influences how a group works. When communicating with a group it is important to be stood up in front of the group so they can all see you and it is important to make eye contact with all of the group and not just focus on one person otherwise ,the rest of the group will lose interest.
How can emotion improve and inhibit communication?
Emotional barriers are a mojour category of barriers that may make effective communication difficult. These barroers are basically characterised by suspicion, mistrust at fear. While a little amount of fear and lack of trust may be nessissary, excess of these thins is not good an prevents one from doing a lot of things including difficulty in communicating effectively. It is important that service users trust the service providers because the service user may not take the service providers advice which could be potentially dangerous or even life threatening. Some onditions usch as stroke, being drpresssed or having other mental health problems may affect an individuals ability to communicate because they affect the persons ability and to send and receive messages effectively. Similarly when a person is angry, aggressive or upset, they may find it hard to
