Concept Paper
Prepare a Concept Paper of your research proposal using Word Processing software based on the guidelines below.
Be ready for oral presentation during the class using Presentation software.
Presentation Outline for Concept Paper
The following guidelines should enable you to write a concise concept paper (about 2 to 3 pages) on a research topic that you intend to develop further and subsequently submit as your graduate thesis.
Title
The title should be comprehensive enough to indicate the nature of the proposed work, but brief and informative and meaningful to any scientist.
Summary/Abstract
This should capture the whole concept paper such that it can market your research idea to a reviewer without reference to the whole concept paper.
The summary should detail the: Goal;
Motivation;
Project purpose;
Justification;
Methodologies;
Expected output (s);
Quantity of inputs required;
Projected duration of the project. Introduction
The introduction section of a research proposal explains the reasons why the student is candidly eager to conduct the research. It also explains the relevant theories and background literature within the academic discipline of the graduate student as they relate to the main problem being addressed in the study.
This covers sub-section on:
Background
Present a concise description and discussion of the nature of the problem to be investigated.
Include reference to some reports of previous research in the field and related areas, both academic and non-academic, theoretical discussions, official statistics, newspaper articles or reports, and, perhaps even personal accounts or experiences of the researcher on the phenomenon(a) being investigated. It might also be based on the findings of exploratory research already undertaken.
Describe how the present study to be conducted (being conducted) will attempt (attempts) to bridge knowledge gaps earlier identified; and, where or how further progress in the academic discipline
