Communication is a part and parcel of everyone’s life. All individuals need to communicate to share their knowledge and information with others. However, the degree of its effectiveness depends upon your personal communication skills. The better are your communication skills, the better a person understands you. The purposes of communication could be many but the most important part is to understand how to communicate effectively. Communication is a two way process and therefore requires complete understanding among the communicators. Not only the content but also the way the content is transferred is important. Students are the future of every nation. That is why the role of teachers is so important to the society. It is through a teacher that generations of youngsters are deeply influenced. Overall improvement in a student can be expected when communication skills for teachers is given due importance. Thus, it is important that communication skills become an important ingredient of a teacher’s professional competency. Communication Process
Communication is any behavior that results in an exchange of meaning .Communication is the process of transferring information or ideas from one person to the other. Communication is the activity of conveying meaningful information. Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient, although the receiver need not be present or aware of the sender's intent to communicate at the time of communication; thus communication can occur across vast distances in time and space. The communication process is complete once the receiver has understood the sender. Such an effective communication process is shown below.
Communication and Teaching
Teaching is generally considered as only fifty percent knowledge and fifty percent interpersonal or communication skills. For a teacher, it is not just important to give a quality lecture but it is more important for the presentation of a lesson or lecture in class. Communication skills for teachers are thus as important as their in-depth knowledge of the particular subject which they teach. Teachers should be aware of the importance of communication skills in teaching. They must also realize that all students have different levels of strengths and weaknesses. It is only through communication skills that a teacher can introduce creative and effective solutions to the problems of the students. Thus, a teacher can enhance the learning process.
