The College Experience Essay Example
n High School, college seemed to be the scariest thing that I could think of. Whenever I thought about it my stomach would immediately begin to spin in circles. Although I was ready to go off and be by myself and meet new people I was scared to death at the same time. I didn't know much about the "college experience" and what I did know (or thought I knew) scared me. I pictured hard classes that I wouldn't be able to keep up with, people that wouldn't like me, long hikes to get to my classes, and horrible food. I couldn't imagine leaving the security of my own room, my own stuff where I want it, my friends that I've spent practically my whole life with, my family who put up with all my little quirks, and my car!! What was I going to do without my precious car? Some of my friends that had already been to college and had come back to visit seemed so much older and more mature. I felt twelve years old in comparison. I thought that I would never be able to fit in. Everyone else that I talked to didn't however seem to have this problem. They all were thrilled at the thought of being on their own and not having to worry about their parents telling them what to do all the time. And sure, the thought was extremely exciting to me as well, but how would I survive without my family and friends and the things that had taken me eighteen years to get used to. I felt like going to college was pretty much taking everything that I knew and had grown accustomed to and throwing it up in the air. The worst part about it all was that I felt like I was the only one that actually thought about this. I felt so immature and childish for actually being scared to come to college. After I thought I wouldn't be able to take the pressures anymore, I decided to approach my mom about the subject. I told her that I was a little scared and the thought of being on my own made me a little uneasy.
"Sweetie" she said, "I know it's a little hard right now and things are a little confusing and

The move Amistad and the story “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano” have many similarities. The three similarities between the story and Amistad are the ways that the slaves were treated, the conditions of the ships, and the reactions of the slaves. Throughout my life I have gone through very unfair things. There is always something between me and achieveing my goals, although those things aren't there to make life hard, but to make me fight for what I want. Before I used to say I didn't want to go to college and even if I did I wouldn't make it. Now I have a whole new different perspective and I really want to go to college to have both a good future and life. The reason there should be a spot for me in college are so many. I want to be the first one to graduate from college in my family. I want to be someone my little cousins would admire, a rolemodel. I would show them that even through the inequalities, the lack of money, and unfairness, I made it to college. Also I have my want of making something out of my life, no one wants to be a nobody. If you have the faith and belief in yourself, perseverance and effort, anything can be accomplished. If I make it to college I can help out and encourage my family to do the same. I want to go to college and graduate to become a Pediatrician which is what i've wanted to do all my life. I enjoy being with kids and I'd love to help them out. I could do all of this and more but going to college is a MUST. With a college education I'll achieve anything I set my mind, soul, and heart to do. I would try my best at everything, and stand on my own 2 feet, for my family, and especially for myself. If I get to receive a college education I would feel as if i'm on top of the world. Those are the reasons why their should be a spot for me in…

Throughout this novel there are a lot of characters worthy of comparing and contrasting, however I've decided to analyze Matsu, and Stephen relationship. The base of Matsu and Stephen relationship sort of reminds me of a George and Lennie relationship from the “Of Mice and Men Tale”, in which George carries around Lennie like a helpless pet by caring for him, guiding him through life, and bailing him out of the sticky situations he gets himself in.…

College is meant to be the best few years of a person's life, and I have to say I agree. When it comes to college there are many ways a person can go about their experiences, they could join a sports team, fulfill the college dream of partying every weekend, or they could be like me, a person who has spent most of their time so far stressing over classes and studying like a madman. No matter how a person goes about their college experience, each option has the potential to be an intimidating one. With the sports team outcome, there comes fear of not being as talented as some teammates, partying comes with the fear of not fitting in with the cool crowd, and lastly, consistent studying and stressing results in the fear of not being good enough and not reaching the ideal GPA. While college can be intimidating, it is a very rewarding experience, I have improved my writing skills, I have received an average grade in this course, and I have learned a few important lessons from my hectic first semester.…

The single most impactful experience in my life is attending Ventura Community College. Nothing has hurt me more. In high school I had taken AP and IB classes and had finished within the top ten percent of my class but I had no idea what I wanted to do. I applied to some schools that I considered to be mediocre so that I could continue swimming, but as the application deadlines ended and most of my friends were being accepted to places such as UCLA, UCSB, and even Harvard, I had realized that I wanted a greater challenge and possibly a greater reward. It was too late, I was going to community college.…

I have always been raised by a single parent, and while I have continuously received the necessities for school and life in general, luxurious items were not seen as important as the things we needed. My mom has always taught me and my brother the concept of things I want versus things I need, and I have always admired how hard my mother works to provide for me and my brother with love and support for our lives. This scholarship opportunity would greatly take some burden off of my mother. The financial support that college requires is extensive and has always been on my mind throughout my senior year. My college decision could possibly be a decision between the more frugal option and the college that makes me happy. My mom has always told me to go to the…

My entire senior year of High School I was in the mind set of going to college. I loved the idea of being on my own. Life at home was too stressful, especially because my family is in the process of moving. Every day I had an obligation to clean/pack up a room. The problem was my parents did not give my brothers and I enough instruction of where to put all the junk in the house, so, nothing ever seemed to be moving forward or making progress. This always lead to fights and more anxiety. Also, my parents have full time jobs which delayed the moving process even more.…
