Positive Aspects of Online Social Networking Outweigh the Negative There is no one who can deny the importance of online social networking. It has tremendous influence on most people. Somebody asked, “What would your life be if the world didn’t have online social networking?” And people declared that their life would be meaningless without it. As we see the online social network has been used in every field from doctors, engineers, students, teachers to office staff working in any areas. Even though some people believe it is addicting, the positive aspects of online social networking outweigh the negative because it is an easier form of communication and it helps in study. Online social networking sites have developed rapidly, and people use them in different ways, however, they can become addicted. They logging onto the Internet go to new spaces, and want to explore everything; and they don’t want to leave. They are spending more and more time without any reason. And “the trouble signs are all there. They don’t sleep enough, they don’t eat right, they’ve lost touch with their friends and their school performance has dropped off a cliff” (Cooney). The time students spend on studying is automatically reduced. There are many types of Internet addiction, but “the main types of Internet addiction are cybersex, online affairs, online gaming, compulsive surfing and even eBay addiction” (Manuel). Online game is the product of online social networking; this has significantly changed daily life. Many people are attacked and have wasted their time by the appeal of online game, instead of working, learning, caring for the household. They become addicted to a virtual world of online game. Even though people can get addicted, but online social networking sites present us with excellent form to communicate. This is the first idea development. Most commonly, “Facebook, Tweeters, and MySpace spatial say they feel connected to more people, more rewardingly”

    "Internet addiction disorder [IAD] refers to the problematic use of the Internet, including the various aspects of its technology, such as electronic mail (email) and the World Wide Web ("Internet Addiction Disorder", 1).     Video game addiction has become a major problem in our society. Many children and teenagers play an excessive amount of hours of video games a day that they develop countless problems such as violent behavior, hostility and social isolation. These are but few of many examples of problems young teenagers face when they have gotten to the point of addiction. However, video game addiction is proven to be associated with academic achievements and social skills as well. (Chui et al., 2004). Gaming addicts experience huge fluctuations in behavior as stated by Chin & Wen-Bin (2007). These so called fluctuations in behaviors do not manifest on their own however. Many addicts have actually become hooked on gaming simply because it provides them of a method to escape reality. The notion of escaping reality then becomes a habit, which leads to addiction (Lee & LaRose, 2007). Accordingly, the addict finds himself torn between two worlds: reality and the virtual world. This split is identified to cause behavioral differences such as the fluctuations previously mentioned and certain states of aggressiveness (Chin & Wen-Bin 2007). Video game addiction has in fact become a troublesome concept for many individuals. Though, in order to fully understand this concept, one must define it first: Online games can create a separate and unique world that helps identify the user of his preferences, goals, dislikes, settings, team goals and organizations (Chin & Wen-Bin 2007). As described by Young (1996), the internet itself is not addictive, but the specific applications used to achieve certain goals that benefit the user in some ways. At a social science perspective, video game addiction can lead to troubles in communication and self representation. This could also deeply effect the gamer psychologically. Abstract As computer games grow in popularity, the negative effects of usage should be studied. Computer games (games played on a computer, tablet, or any web-enabled device) have salient qualities, especially MMORPGs, that cause addictive symptoms. I investigated computer game addiction and usage in Trinity College students. A sample of 114 students (M =20.4 years of age, 61% female) was divided into a non-addicted, social player, and computer-addicted group based on Young's Diagnostic Questionnaire. My results showed that there is no significant correlation between day quality and computer game usage, and no significant correlation between emotional dependence and group.
