My name is Julia Troxell and I live in Algood, TN. I have been a Tennessee State Trooper for the past five years. I serve the sixth district which includes Putnam county and fourteen surrounding counties. The county I primarily work in is Putnam on the midnight shift. The job is very stressful yet rewarding. From a very young age I always knew I wanted to be involved with law enforcement. I chose the highway patrol because in my eyes they are the elite. They are no better than any other law enforcement agency, however they are held to a higher standard in comparison with a city or county agency. Professionalism, integrity and pride are demanded of all troopers in the state of Tennessee. I am going to explain how I got to where I am and some of my duties and responsibilities on a daily basis.…

Proper classification is crucial to the efficient and safe operation of any prison facility. Although there are a variety of classification systems throughout corrections, they each are used in order to asses, manage, treat and ultimately return offenders to general society. The classification system not only provides proper placement of inmates, but ensures that order and discipline are maintained, programs and reasonable treatment is available, assurance that the staff, prisoners, as well as the public are protected by proper procedures. Allotting resources and planning of facility management also falls under the classification system.…

We are the most technically advanced nation in the free world but yet we have not been able to reduce the number of firefighter fatalities over the years. Its one of the great mysteries of the world today. Our gear is better than what they wore thirty years ago, its better than what they wore ten years ago and we still lose an average of one hundred firefighters every year. I know that not all are dying in structure fires but just one is one too many.…

    Prison Overcrowding

    • 1179 Words

One of the largest reasons prisons are overcrowded today is that it is reported that one out of every 99.1 adults are currently in prison or jail. This is the largest number in nation’s history and seven times the inmate rate from 1973. Amazingly ninety-five percent of prisoners are released back into communities to continue living their lives. They are not thrown to the wolves; they are released “with a basic education, job training and preparation, improved pro-social pattern of thinking, adequate life/social skills, and a lowered risk for substance abuse, anger and self esteem issues” (Boehm, D. P., & Lampert, R.…

Houghton Refrigeration Company safety training program is very poorly organized. I disagree with their current process of hiring and training new employees. Houghton Refrigeration should not expect newly hired employees to learn a job within ten minutes and perform the job correctly without any prior knowledge of the product they are about to work on. Currently Houghton does not offer orientations. Houghton should offer newly hired employees an orientation where they are given a brief history of the company and the products it offers customers. Houghton should also offer training sessions during the first week of employment so employees can learn the company’s processes. Training sessions should be conducted by a member of management who is engaging and familiar with the products, safety regulations, and OSHA requirements. Training sessions should include safety material -handling techniques, safety rules and regulations, lifting procedures, and proper ways of installing products. This will allow employees to familiarize themselves with safe ways to handle the products they will be working with and give them an opportunity to ask questions. Once the employees show up for their first day they should be assigned to an experienced employee for at least two days to show and monitor the new employees work and assist if needed. The experienced employee could provide the new hire with helpful information or techniques as to how to complete the job effectively and without accidents.…
